Late Meiji - early Taisho (1910s-1920s) Japanese Kutani ceramic lozenge shaped dish for holding sweets during tea ceremony. Central area is painted with a butterfly on flight over chrysanthemums growing over rocks by a bamboo fence. Nicely potted stoneware body with rounded corners. Wonderful free painting in typical Ko-Kutani (ancient Kutani) style and color palette of blue, green, aubergine, black, tomato red and gold enamels...

Japanese black lacquered woven Bamboo Trunk, Meiji period, early 1900's, 11" high, 25" x 15" wide, with large and heavy black iron handles supported by wooden board on both side, paper lining inside and metal hinges on top to open one side of the top cover. This Bamboo Trunk is good to storing Dolls and other necessary light weight items. There are some black lacquer loses on the surface.

Antique Japanese silver kanzashi, the upper design part is gold plated with finely engraved three oak leaves. *This was one of the most popular crests among the warrior samurai class particularily among close devotees of Shinto. Top quality hand cut metal work. Circa (we think) Meiji period (1868-1912). 6 3/4" long and 1 3/8" in width.

Japanese Imari Porcelain Vase, Ca. 1868-1912, Meiji period, 12" high, 6" wide-widest measurement, 3" diameter-top rim, overglaze design of Bamboo, Maple, Pine and flowering trees inside the two cartouches, and Peony flowering tree wrapped around by stylized Peacock feather inside the other two(2) sides, all decoration are done by overglaze Imari colors on top of the underglaze blue, and highlighted in gold. The condition is good, no damages.

Antique Japanese two section Kiri wood Nihon Matsu tansu with top and sides lacquered in deep red. This chest has four large and medium drawers with decorative backplates handles, and large iron locks incised with different flora. The top section has a side lockbox with three small drawers inside. A boxwood sculpture of the elephant deity Shoten embracing the female Kangiten. In Esoteric Buddhism, they signify matrimonial peace and bearing of offspring. Shoten is derived from Ganesha and is regarded as a wild one. Kangiten is an incarnation of the Eleven Headed Kannon. She appeases and converts him to Buddhism. Shoten and Kangiten are usually kept in a closed shrine as "secret sculptures" or Hibutsu (because of the sexual allusion)...

This is an old Japanese silk purse, or a tissue holder in a wallet style with a silver clasp. It is truly a beautiful piece. The detail photos show the intricate weaving pattern, Sagara embroidery (Peking, French knot) and deep color of genuine gold. The light reflects on the silk in such a beautiful way. They bounce between the delicate indentions that were created from the weaving pattern...

Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) with hinged biraki doors. Made of keyaki (zelkova elm) wood with a deep red lacquer finish. The upper portion of the chest has three exterior drawers over the doors which open to reveal a large compartment and four small interior drawers. The lower portion of the chest has two large exterior drawers. Extensive iron hardware includes cross bracing moko shaped drawer pulls, lock plates, and foliate corner brackets...

A golden brocaded basket suspended in air and filled with flowers. A bird resting on a branch while another flutters about surrounded by the joy of spring. This cup and saucer is one of my personal favorites, delicate and translucent and without flaw; the gold accentuates the weaving of the basket, the flowers well arranged, and every detail seems to spring to life...

A cheerful Japanese Arita "Imari" bowl with a spotted lion dog looking at a waterfall. This scene is repeated in 3 cartouches surrounding the bowl's exterior. Enameled with vivid palette of colors, it is in very good original condition. No repairs, hairline, etc. Spurious Chinese mark on bottom reads "Greatest Ming Chenghua Make". Measures 7.75 Inches in diameter by 3.75" high.

One of its sides has a small bird perched upon a branch with outspread wings, with mixed metal inlay including gold, silver, and shakudo. Japanese studio ware ceramic figure of the immortal, Gama Sennin. Based on the Chinese 10th century alchemist, Liu Hai, Gama Sennin is often depicted in relation to the lucky 3-legged money-toad. Gama Sennin can assume the form of a toad and can change his skin to appear young again. In this depiction of the much loved immortal, he sits on a rocky outcropping and hold in one hand a peach, in the other a small toad. Whimsically perched on his head is a large load with a spotted belly.

Very interesting antique Aka Raku Bajyohai Tea Bowl, made with a rare long foot. Bowls like this are called 馬上杯, Bajyohai: Rider's Cup. Its form makes them convenient for the ancient horse-riders to drink tea from.

Our Tea Bowl was made in the early stage of the last century during the Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912).

No chips or cracks.

Small bronze cannon of this type where made for shooting flaming arrows at ships, launching fireworks at festivals, and for signaling purposes. The example of cast bronze with a bore that is described as at the breach and the bore is reduced to a half round section to form a chamber for the powder mount for use. The gun would be imbedded into a wooded block such as the lower half of the barrel and the entire breach end is covered. Mounted on custom iron stand.
