Japanese Edo Period Wood Carving of a Monkey on a Peach Tree. Originally housed in a Buddhist temple. Carved of poloma wood. Original pigments still exist, which is very unusual for the age. It is a wonderfully carved and captivating work of art. 23 x 9 inches, 58.5 x 23 cm.

Here we offer another Japanese tea kettle from our collection. It is a cast iron relief tetsubin from the late Edo Period. It is signed by the unknown artist. It has a tasteful design.

Inside is some rust but no water leak. Great atmosphere. A real antique tetsubin.

This antler horn nestuke, carved from the antler base, represents a clam shell resting on a decorated circular base. The underside has been carved to show a temple scene located near the sea. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.

Antique Japanese byobu (screen painting) depicting a tiger. Standing in a bamboo grove, he looks upwards towards the gathering storm clouds. Bamboo leaves start to blow in the wind. Nearby a small stream crashes over rocks. The tiger and the dragon are often seen together in Japanese art. The tiger represents the wind and the West while the dragon represents water and the East...

This is a very fine early Japanese plique-a-jour bowl. The bowl measures 4 3/8 inches across and stands 2 1/4 inches tall. The bowl has two short lines in the yellow/red mums on the side that are hard to see. Look for them in the images. They can not be felt with a fingernail and are probably not all the way through. It is mounted with silver rims.

A small beaker form vase of square section with vertical barbed halberd shaped vertical flanges dating to the Meji period. The decoration rather than cast has been cold chiselled in “Chinese style”. This is Yogi used in the Tohoku district of Edo period. This is Yogi which a rich landscape gardener used. As for this, a pattern of the lower part is a bamboo fence. This has the W kirimon which twined Tang grass around the upper part. As for this, cotton is spun by hand. The bamboo fence which this is the indigo plant light and shade, and was drawn is very unusually precious. And the bamboo fence is drawn from the left to the right with a curve to be sunk. It resembles Koetu-Kaki...
