19c netsuke of 5 boys playing blind man’s buff with 4 of them hiding behind a floor screen, while the blindfolded one is searching on the other side. Rare subject, wonderful carving, nice faces, very good etching of a landscape and pine saplings on the screen, beautiful wear and patina. Length 1 9/16 inches.

A silver wired rooster, hen and chick on an olive green ground decorate this signed 7.25" vase. Rims are silvered, the bottom is black enamel.

This 8" high wooden figure of the sitting Tenjin was carved during the Edo period, the mid 19th century (1850). Tenjin is the Japanese "god" name name given to the Japanese statesman and scholar, Sugawarea Michizane, the 9th century poet and writer of Chinese prose and verse.

Possibly carved from cryptomera wood and darkened with age, this carved figure has both a simplicity and elegance which are, for me, the major characteristics of Japanese asthetics.

With a height of 32 inches, this is a rare and impressive example of early 19th century Imari ware. Both the vase and stand are finely decorated in shades of blue, gold and orange.

Condition is excellent.

Beautiful and unusual Japanese antique kuruma tansu (storage chest on wheels), made all of heavy keyaki (elm) wood with iron hardware, front has sliding panels with horizontal slats, sides and back all have wooden bracing, interior left side has 4 drawers of different sizes with iron hardware, right side interior has hidden compartment that opens to reveal 2 secret boxes.

An antique Gyosho Tansu (peddler's chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware. Top of chest has a recessed table top where the peddler displayed and demonstrated his wares for sale. Upper hinged door houses 5 drawers where wares were stored and record keeping supplies were kept. Bottom hinged door covers 3 drawers for additional wares.

Antique Japanese large Buddhist altar table. Made of carved and lacquered wood and decorated with many petalled chrysanthemums. The kiri blossom in the center is the mon used by the Toyotomi clan. This very well made and hand painted vase is a 19th century product. It is 9 ½” high and 2 ¾” wide from the widest part. It depicts chrysanthemum and butterflies over a beige crackled body. There is a brocade pattern design on the top of the vase. The black hand-painted mark “Dai Nippon, Taizan Sei” is on the bottom. It is in great condition.

Antique Japanese Noh mask of the O-beshimi fierce deity, or mythical tengu. "Beshimi" means "mouth clamped shut". This mask is hand-carved from kiri wood, and inside you can see the chisel marks left behind by the artist. There are visible traces of white gesso in the crevices of the face, which was used as a filler to cover the wood grain. Edo period, 19th century Size: 9.5" tall, 7" wide

It is a sashiko hanten from the Meiji era. All sashiko are hand-sashiko. It was made in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture during the Meiji era. The white thread is used to express indigo-dyed cotton-type dyeing with sashiko stitches. There is a little dirt. But it doesn't stand out. There is no damage. The condition is very good. Cotton is thick and feels good. It is a valuable gem. Size::length 70cm (27.6inch)

Antique Japanese hirado ware white vase with base. The vase is a beautiful white color. The simple shape is accented with dragon shaped handles on either side.
