Antique Japanese Nabeshima ware bowl, with blue gourds hanging from a vine and two red flower buds with gilt pigment accents on the stem and around the bowl's rim. Blue butterflies decorate the outer edge and "comb" design along foot. Provenance sticker from Japanese antique dealer Shiota in San Francisco. 19th century. Size: 6" diameter, 1.5" height

The mask is of dark brown russet lacquer finish and the interior is smoothed lacquered red. The high jaw his two protrusion hooks for strapping the cords, underneath the chin is a vent hole. The mask is fitted with yodare kare of three row of false scale lace and blue silk.

Antique Japanese small Kiri tansu from the Sakata region, with red lacquer top and sides and black lacquer front. Motifs of bamboo, pine, kiri leaves, and other floral imagery can be seen in the iron plates of each drawer. The bottom right corner houses an ornate lockbox with two small drawers inside. Japanese 6-Panel byobu folding screen, with painting of a flowering wheat field under the full moon. The screen's paper hinges are done in gold gofun paper. Excellent condition, very presentable well suited for the times. The screen bears elements related to the Shijo School, hand-signed signature, with two red chops, attributed to Shiokawa Bunrin (1808-1877).

Antique Japanese two-section Cho-ba tansu (merchants chest) made from hinoki (cypress) wood. Its top section has two large sliding panels with beautiful molded handles and three small drawers. The bottom section have multiple drawers, some with brass keyholes that have been etched with attractive designs, and two more sets of sliding panels. The bottom, slatted panels hide a secret compartment with a small storage drawer...

An antique Japanese Ranma (transom) that was highly detailed and hand carved out of Akita Suginoki (Cryptomeria from the Akita region) with a Hinoki (Cypress) frame. It features a landscaped Shinto shrine grounds complete with the shrine complex, pine trees, clouds, a Torii gate, a Pagoda, and a beautiful footbridge. The image is carved on both sides to show the front and back of the complex...

A Japanese Buddhist temple wall carving / transom, with red and gilt lacquer pigments. Carved with the image of an instrument against a ground of heavenly clouds. Professionally framed to be mounted and displayed on the wall.

Kesa was originally made from old scraps of material donated to the priests. The scraps became finer and quite luxious in time. People who gave to Buddhist institutions were often keen to give very expensive items, so some fabulous kesas were created from wonderful silk brocades. This also could mean that the wealthier temples end up collecting the better fabrics or are able to send out for the expensive custom made kesas...

Kake-fukusa, a gift cover, used on the occasion of auspicious events. It is made of tapestry weave silk with two performers motif, one is wearing Daikoku costume with a gavel. Two men look Kado-tsuke, strolling musicians or performers who play dancing and music in front of houses and get some money. In good condition but damage in the black Eboshi (hat) of the man with a fan. Meiji period (1868~1912) 62cm x 67cm

Antique Japanese okidoko (shelf for tokonoma), for Japanese display and storage, made all of keyaki (elm) wood with beautiful grain, 4 sliding doors open to one large compartment, pulls for sliding panels have raised motifs of flowers and waves, Taisho Period (circa 1920). Size: 14" high (12" high to top surface) x 63 3/4" long x 13 1/4" deep.

Very charming Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made from very beautiful keyaki (zelkova) wood, horizontal slats on its sides, decorative iron hardware including diamond shaped handles with incised scrolling vines, hirute drawer handles, and a cloud-shaped lockplate for a small hinged door with three small drawers inside. Dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912). Original Condition Size: 30" height, 25.75" width, 13.25" depth
