Obidome is worn on an obi cord that holds the obi sash together, it is the only type of jewelry worn by Japanese women on formal occasions, and could serve as netsuke as well. Japanese Kutani Porcelain Cup and Saucer, Ca. 1910, Meiji Period, 4 7/8" diameter-saucer, 1 7/8" high, 3 7/8" wide include handle-cup, very detailed design of Japanese garden and bird flying over in Orange and Gold on white background, highlighted with brilliant gold on orange background design. Artist or Studio signature with very stylish script in gold on the bottom. The condition is good.

Late Meiji (1890s - 1910s) small Japanese bamboo wrist rest used by painters and calligraphers, made out of a section of bamboo stem with very beautiful natural raised spotting on the outside resembling marching columns of black ants. Excellent subtle piece in elegant scholar’s taste, probably made for a child, warm patina, in superb condition. Length 7 1/8 inches, width 15/16 inches.

Vintage Japanese wooden sago (tea scoop) carved in a shape of an eggplant. That kind of tea scoop is used for sencha - a type of Japanese green tea which is prepared by infusing the processed whole tea leaves in hot water. Cleverly and beautifully carved (see the stippling on the leaves by the stem) out of softwood, very pleasant to hold, in great condition. Length 4 7/8 inches.

Unusual late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese kushi (hair comb) with buffalo horn teeth and silver frame with design of flying cranes on geometric background. Sharp metalwork with gold washes to the bodies of the birds, clever work in Japanese taste, nicely tarnished. Length 3.45 inches.

19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in a shape of a hut with thatched roof, signed HAKUSHO on the back. Good design, very nice wear, overall in great condition. Height 9/16 inches.

Two matching small Imari dishes with high quality applied decoration, including the "three gentlemen" at the center of each dish (pine, bamboo, and plum blossom). The dishes have a scalloped edge, and have a stylized Ching Dynasty, Yung Cheng, reign mark on the recessed base. Each dish measures about 5 1/2" in diameter x 1" high, and dates to the mid 19th Century. The condition is excellent/perfect. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

Very unusual 1900s (late Meiji) miniature Japanese bronze reliquary to be worn as a pendant or used on a house altar. Beautifully made crisp image of Amida Buddha modeled on the Great Buddha of Kamakura, front and back are hinged on the bottom and open to reveal small storage space for a tiny object of religious significance to the owner...

This is a finely carved and lacquered wood Ojime in the form of a Double-Sided Kyogen (Japanese Theater) character masks depicting Okina on one side and Buaku on the reverse. The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. It is not signed, but is attributed to Hozan, a netsuke-shi who worked in wood with metals and lacquer accents in Early 19th century. He was a pupil of Hojitsu. Ojime measures 0.66 inches (1.6cm) in diameter, and 0.74 inches (1.8cm) tall...
