Rice bag made of hand-spun and vegetable indigo dye cotton fragments which are kasuri, katazome (stencil-resist dye) stripes etc. It was used when people dedicated rice or other grains to temples or shrines. It has beautiful fine katazome cotton cloth for lining. In good condition but string in the hem is damaged and cord for binding is lost. 19th to early 20th century. W:37cm, H:27.5cm

Antique Japanese pair of shokudai (candle sticks) for butsudan. Made of bronze and decorated with unusual silver crest. Each with small animal head handles on either side. Nice weight and patination.

Unusual Japanese single section isho tansu (clothing chest), with dramatic Keyaki (elm) front drawers, opened by simplistic hirute style handle pulls and small, squared locks. Its bottom safe box opens to reveal three small drawers within, for the storage of smaller precious articles.

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese buffalo horn kushi (hair comb) encased in silver sheath with gold and shakudo inlays representing beans thrown during setsubun ceremony performed at the New Year around the house to exorcise the oni (demons). Superbly made, crisp detailing, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in great condition. Length 3.39 inches.

A two drawer Japanese box done in a kinji or gold background with fine paintings of pine and flowers with a family crest set in the open areas of the piece. An unusually small and rare antique Japanese Cha Tansu (tea chest) made of Kuwa (Mulberry) and Kuri (Chestnut) woods. All original bronze hardware. With four drawers of varying sizes to store additional tea accoutrements.
