The topmost section of the tansu has two smaller drawers with a single handle each, topped with two sliding panel doors, opening to a shelved interior and two more small drawers with adorable twin fish handle pulls. Japanese carved boxwood large Okimono, Mino-Kame turtle. Late 19th Century, Meiji Period. Mino (straw raincoat) Kame (turtle/tortoise) are named as such because Japanese believe the turtle lives such a long time that they grow algae on their on their shells, symbolizing longevity. 18th century netsuke of sennin (or rakan) Handaka Sonja wearing an old robe with leaf cape and skirt, with a gnarled staff in one hand and supporting a bowl with dragon emerging from it. The rakkan is Arhat Panthaka - one of the most capable disciples of Buddha, who subjugated the Dragon King, and is usually portrayed with a dragon. Strong early carving with excellent face, eyes are inlaid with black horn, netsuke of characteristic 18th century triangular section...

Japanese light Kiri and Cedar Wood two(2) section Tansu, chest on chest with original light color wood and hardware, Ca. 1940, 42" high, 36" wide, 16" deep, two(2) long drawers in upper section above one(1) short drawer next to two(2) small drawers on the right in lower level. All drawers have heavy ornate back plate and heavy black iron handles, the condition is good, original condition, all the black iron works are solid and heavy.

A moulded hexagonal bowl, hakkaku hachi, decorated to the exterior with an iron red ground inset with alternating reserves containing ribbon bound scrolls, makimono, and artemisin leaves, mogusa-ha, two of the Eight Chinese precious objects, Babao, hachitakara, and a band of stylised eight petal flowers, presumably Tessen the clematis flower, with leaves and pine branches...

A pair of antique Japanese folding keyaki doors with iron mounts. The door is constructed with mortise and tenon joints. The panels are divided into 7 parts framed with carved decoration and hinged with iron mounts. The carved decoration is finely painted with polychrome mineral pigment with gold gilt accents. The subject matter of the temple doors is a scrolling lotus motif and 8 phoenixes.

Beautiful Antique Japanese tea kettle. Made in iron, there are vertical striations down the sides of kettle overlayed with bunches of grapes and vines, as well as flying birds. The guard shape of the kettle and handle symbolizes the seasonal autumn months and harvest. The kettle lid models a bronze red two toned beautifully lacquered glazing. Flower like details in bronze circle the top of lid. Inscription inside lid reads Ryubundo, the noted studio produced iron tea kettles. From Meiji period...

Cotton futonji made of hand-spun cotton and vegetable indigo dye. It has tsutsugaki auspicious motifs such as crane, turtle, plum blossom, bamboo and pine tree. Tsutsugki technique is excellent. In good condition but has a mending patch causing the lacking part of design and re-sawn by machine, a mending patch and also a snag (2cm) in the upper part. 19th century. W:130cm, L:186cm

A kozuka with gilt and silvered bronze decoration of a general's baton and banner on dark patinated bronze nanako ('fish roe' textured ground.) The utility knife handle with shakudo (a pickled gold and copper alloy) back and sides. Surfaces showing wear and slight distress from use but in fairly good and serviceable condition. Could benefit from a light cleaning and oiling. Length, little more than 3 3/4 inches (9.53 cm)
