A fine Arita awabi-gata o-zara abalone shaped dish made primarily for the Japanese market decorated with a textile style pattern featuring blocks of hanabishi brocade juxtaposed with the auspicious Shochilubai, three friend of winter. Most unusually rather than the more typical green enamel brocade band this example has an Aka-e kinrande nindou-mon brocade band. This middle or late 18th century Japanese wood netsuke is 3 ¼ inches tall, 1 inch wide and ¾ inch thick. It was carved from unknown softwood and not signed. It depicts a famous Chinese historical character GUAN YU. His right hand is holding a weapon (long handled knife) and his left hand is holding a book called ¡°Spring-Autumn Annals¡±. It is in great condition.

19th century Asakusa school staghorn netsuke of obihasami type carved with a couple of bamboo stals. The hooks at the top and bottom of the piece go around the edges of obi - a sash holding a kimono. Simple clever piece typical of Asakusa school, warm patina, darker porous areas as is usual with staghorn. Length 4.14 inches.

Finely potted shallow bowl-form dish with an everted octagonal rim, painted on the exterior in underglaze cobalt blue with a scrolling vine and flower motif. The interior is delicately painted in overglaze enamels with a scene of a male and a female pheasant among flowers and the rim is decorated with eight flower scrolls in red, green and blue enamel colors and gilding. This is Apron textile of the baby shibori & nishiki-ori of the last part of Edo era(1800-1867). It is a very impressive design. It has a thin stain. It has a little snag and part which I rubbed against. The black part is a velvet, and the lining is crimson silk. size:39cm x 37cm (15.3" x 14.5")

19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in a shape of standing Okame wearing a long robe and sporting a compass in the front. Possibly had a face in the opening above the compass, but I am not entirely sure. Nicely made, good patina, compass is functional. Height 0.7 inches.

The Koto is a string instrument that originated in China and came to Japan in the 7th ¨C 8th century. The Japanese Koto is a large instrument, about six feet long. This rare smaller version of Koto from Meiji Period (1868~1911) is 21 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 ½ inches tall. It has a hollow body made from Kiri wood, underneath the body are two sound holes, one at each end. There are 13 strings which are tied over at each end of the body...

This is sashiko Indigo dye cotton noragi hanten at the Meiji era(1868-1912). There is a repair mark in the sleeve and the back. However, it is very good overall. I recommend it for your collection. size:120cm x 132cm (47.2" x 52")

This is a japanese antique Very nice handspun & natural indigo dye thick cotton katazome kimono. There are a few small holes. There is a light stain on the lining fabric.
