A very unusual enamelled polychrome Arita dish decorated with a curious central motif which would appear to be a highly stylised interpretation of double Vajra, similar motifs, are to be found of Chinese Ming porcelains of the late 15th and early 16th centuries...

Carved to fit the hand perfectly, this Japanese ivory page turner offers elegant design combined with function. The artists skill becomes even more evident when the page turner is held. In excellent condition save for one small shallow chip about 2-3 mm, see last photo, very hard to see, but can be felt if you run your finger slowly along the blade. The page turner measures 18.5" x 1.25".

Japanese Kutani Porcelain Sake Cup Washer with Cover, Ca. 1910, late Meiji period, 5 1/4" high with cover on, 6 1/4" diameter-top rim, overglaze scenery of bridge over the river, and country houses and Pink Cherry Blossom trees decorated and highlighted with brilliant raised gold decoration. It looks like the pig walking on the bridge with flag? The Bowl is resting above the attached three(3) wide legs, all in one(1) piece. Signed in red "Kutani" on the bottom. The condition is good.

Japanese antique happi coat, made of cotton with white paste resist ground and design of light blue mon and characters, collar and interior edge of sleeves reinforced with pieces of blue and white plaid cotton fabric, Meiji/Taisho Period. Size: 32" high x 49 1/2" wide

This is one of the most significant Japanese satsuma pieces ever created. This is a museum piece with fabulous workmanship in combination with a very large size. This bowl truly has a volume 10-20 times bigger than a normal 5 inch Yabu Meizan bowl. It measures 7 inches tall and is 9 ¾ inches wide. It is also heavily made weighing about 4-5 lbs. The bowl features 6 different exquisitely decorated panels in polychrome and gilt. These panels depict people, birds and landscape scenes...

A small metel bound six drawer black lacquered cabinet finely painted in gold lacquer . Three drawers are decorated with a branch of flowering prunus blossom and the large drawer and door are each painted with a single duck amongst reeds and iris. Condition: very good - there is some age wear to the decoraration on the top, sides and back but the gold lacquer painting on the front is in excellent condition...

Lovely antique Japanese 4-panel gold leaf screen painting with scene of 3 geese in grasses by water's edge. Beautifully hand painted with fine detail in mineral colors on ground gold leaf paneling. Overall very good condition.

Japanese wooden shop sign. Well-carved with large lettering and small chop signatures in corners. Very heavy in weight. The entire sign has been hand carved down, exposing the kanji lettering. Natural design. Edo Period (circa 1800's) Size: 18" H x 76" L x 1.5" D

A shard has been grafted into the side of this large misshapen Shino bottle dating from the Momoyama to early Edo period, the repair lined with gold. Gold also circle the neck where the discarded misfire was repaired, and gleams on the lip. It is 22 cm (9 inches) tall and in excellent condition...

An antique Japanese two section tansu with lovely fan lock made of Kiri and Sugi. Mokko hardware with raised tea leaf corners. The chest's top portion has two large drawers with an adjacent small drawer and locked door with two interior drawers. The bottom section has two large drawers. Good condition overall.

Antique Japanese small zushi (traveling shrine). Red lacquer case opens to reveal the Buddha in the moment in which he attains parinirvana, dies and is released from the cycle of rebirth. Here he is recumbent on his side on an elongated lotus bed on a two tiered stand carved with blossoming branches and waves. The whole interior of the zushi is lacquered gold as is the Buddha while the lotus petals are delicately painted in colors with gold details...

Antique Japanese set of 10 imari plates with foliate edges, underglaze motifs of and scrolling vines with gilt accents. The underside features cobalt blue underglaze auspicious objects and a four character signature.

18” high Japanese Meiji period cloisonne vase featuring a pheasant and dove among maples leaves and flowers set against a pale blue background. The neck is decorated in a dense butterfly and floral pattern highlighted with goldstone. Blue counter enamel to the interior mouth and base. Copper substrate, base, and rims. Dates 1885-1895. 18" high. Good overall condition with some minor age discoloration to the background, a few fine old brown hairlines, and a few small blemishes (see images)...

Ca. early 1900s

Heavy bronze mallet is cast with a stylized floral motif framed by a key fret design in a rectangular panel wrapping partially around the barrel-form mallet head. The mallet faces are both inlaid with copper and niello (copper, silver, sulphur alloy). The handle is inlaid with niello and incised with the artist’s signature reading “Kozan saku” (made by Kozan). The hole in the base of the handle was for a decorative silk cord, now missing...

Rare yellow glazed Ido style bowl made by Raku Kichizaemon X Tannyu (1795-1854) with original box signed by the artist.

Tannyu was born as the second son of 9th-generation master Ryonyu. His father retired at the age of 56, and his elder brother had died young, so Tannyu became Raku master at the age of 17...

Small porcelain dish from Japan. Decor of birds in flight in a landscape with trees and flowers painted in enamels and gilding. The porcelain is exceedingly thin similar to eggshell porcelain. Three Chinese characters are enamelled in red below, probably Kutani's mark. The designs are neat and of the best quality. Very fragile but good condition. D:138mm.

An unusual Kakiemon dish the outer register finely painted with the Shochikubai. The pine, bamboo and prunus painted separately with elongated trailing branches growing from rockwork. The centre painted with a single bough of flowering Camellias, Tsubaki, symbolic of the season of Spring. The reverse painted with a continuous vine arabesque, karakusa and four supur marks arranged in a "Y" shape. An identical dish is to be found in the Sakaida (Kakiemon) family collection...
