19th century kagamibuta (“mirror lid”) netsuke with bronze top depicting a not-so-repentant oni with a Buddhist gong striker in one hand and a votive plaque in the other as it prostrates himself to serve as a stepping stool for a beautiful maiden who is trying to reach a branch of flowering wisteria. 19th century staghorn Asakusa School netsuke carved as an old square coin on a coiled ribbon, which was traditionally used to hold coins together. Clever design, netsuke is essentially a wish for wealth, great quality carving. There are some natural lines in the material, but no cracks or repairs. Beautifully stained, superb mellow patina. Wonderful subtle piece in Japanese taste. Length 1 1/2 inches.

This is a nicely crafted Japanese silver sake ewer with cherry tree & cherry blossoming flowers with a bird. The top flare & bottom is designed with chrysanthemum flowers with hand hammered background...

The mid 19th century carved nut (tagua) netsuke is 1 ¾” long, 1 ¼” wide and 1 3/8” thick. It depicts a Shi Shi mask and an old man emerging from a cloth bag. There is an artist’s signature on the side. Aside from a few hair line cracks, it is in excellent condition.

Late Meiji to early Taisho (1890s to 1920) lacquered wood netsuke representing a Gigaku theater mask of Baramon - a brahmin of the priestly Indian caste. Rather rare mask, superb quality wonderfully expressive face, lighter wood (probably ichii - Japanese yew wood), excellent use of silvery lacquer. Height 2 1/8 inches.

This middle or late 18th century Japanese wood netsuke is 3 ¼ inches tall, 1 inch wide and ¾ inch thick. It was carved from unknown softwood and not signed. It depicts a famous Chinese historical character GUAN YU. His right hand is holding a weapon (long handled knife) and his left hand is holding a book called ¡°Spring-Autumn Annals¡±. It is in great condition.

Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of a man with a horn on his head, bent under the weight of a richly dressed woman on his back. The subject of the netsuke is Ikkaku Sennin (single horn Sage) carrying princess Sendarama on his back - according to Japanese legend, he grew angry with the Rain Dragons and sealed them away in a cave, causing a drought. Beautiful Indian princess was sent to tempt him and when he could not hold on to his chastity vow, he lost his magical powers, and the rain returned...

This 19th century Japanese unsigned hardwood netsuke of JUROJIN is 2 inches tall, 1 inch wide and ¾ of inch thick. It depicts JUROJIN with both hands in his sleeves in front of him. It is in perfect condition.

Two very rare Ko-imari rice bowls from the Genroku period. C. 1690-1710. These are just gorgeous, the bottoms are painted in the chevron pattern, and various geometrical patterns of roundels with honey comb patterns throughout. Two dragons adorn either side of each cup and each surrounded with colors of iron red and green enamels with gold gilt accents. Each bowl and cover are in perfect condition with very little wear to the enamels, almost non-existant...

Simple wooden shishi (or lion) dance mask with movable ears and jaw. The ears and eyebrows are stained black. Behind the ears a row of small holes have been made, used for attaching the garment (the body of the lion). Mingei.
All light wood, wooden joints (ears on sticks for manipulation by hand).

Nice patina, minor traces of usage: small chip at one of ears, short and unimportant crack in skull. All in all very good condition.
