Japanese Pine store Display shelf with one(1) drawer, Ca. Meiji, Ca. 1880, 15 1/2" high, 24" wide, 7" deep, the drawer has brass handle, and cut out shaped side panels. The condition is good.

Antique Japanese cotton yogi, sleeping kimono for a woman. Thickly padded and decorated with a paste resist and red family crest. More paste resist characters on the front collar. Lined with a dark indigo-dyed cotton.

Antique Japanese shinto mirror, tenka ichi. This mirror has a tassle tied through a turtle. The central motif is of a turtle over bamboo meeting the beaks of two cranes. The birds and turtle are on a beach with pine trees and bamboo bushes. This mirror would have been placed along with three others at the entrance to a shrine for those entering to see their reflection as they entered. Made of bronze, Edo period (c1800).
It measures 4 5/8" by 1/2" deep.

19th century black coral netsuke of an old pine log with inlaid bronze spider spinning its web on one end and a dragonfly caught in another web on the other side of the log. The material is polished branch of umimatsu - in Japanese it literally means SEA PINE, and describes species of black coral with dense texture, concentric growth rings, and amber colored inclusions in the black material...

A Finely Decorated Imari Dish. The centre with a basket of flowers on a floral ground. The base with a four character Fuki Chosun mark 'Riches, Honours and Everlasting Youth'. Japan 19thC. Diameter; 31.3 cm. Condition: slight wear to gilding.

Unusual 19th century wooden netsuke carved as a Buddhist monk (recognizable by its shaved head) fast asleep, lower half of its body inside a huge Buddhist gong. The subject is a metaphor for a failure to reach enlightenment - instead of seeking and understanding the profound power of the gong’s message, the monk uses it as a sleeping pad. Japanese small kesa, Buddhist priest's vestment cloth to be worn over robes. Often described as a mantel or robe, the kesa is worn draped diagonally over the left shoulder and under the right armpit. Meant as a reminder of the Buddha's own simple patched garment, kesa are formed from fragments of cloth donated to the temple by wealthy devotees. Within each garment, the fragments are typically organized in a series of columns framed by a border with angled corners...

19th century small black and red Japanese lacquer 4-compartment inro with two different carved scenes of two scholars in discussion under rocks (one with waterfall cascading off it) with bamboo gracefully growing on their surfaces. Top and bottom are carved differently with peony branches with leaves and buds. Elegant dignified design, very clever and striking use of red lacquer for figures, bamboo and and some peony details. Old silk cord, in excellent condition, no cracks or losses...

A pair of blue and white Hirado oil jars or bottles of squat shape, Meiji period, c 1900. Molded decoration of Paulownia leaves in reserves and an under-glaze blue diaper (grid) pattern. One with a cork stopper crowned by a small silver bird. Height: "2 ¼ /6 cm, diameter: "3 ¾ / 9 cm. Condition: small glaze crack near the mouth to one jar, otherwise fine.

Very unusual 19th century Hirado Japanese porcelain okimono of a swimming koi fish. Superb crisp realistic modeling, wonderful face with beautifully sculpted whiskers, extraordinary depiction of its differentiated scales, clever arrangement of its lower fins providing for a stable display, in perfect condition. Excellent glaze with beautiful deeper color where it is pooling in crevices. Length 8.5 inches.

This well carved late Meiji Period (1868~1911) wood okimono is 2 ¾” high, 3” wide and 2” thick. It depicts a sitting Hotai with big smile on his face. It is signed “Chikamitsu” and is in excellent condition.

A pair of 19th century signed Japanese porcelain Imari bowls with covers. Each of rounded form decorated under glaze with blue, iron red enamels, panels of stylized bamboo and leaves on red ground and gilded.

A beautiful Japanese golden brocade plate dating to the early 18th century, a powerful rendering of a Kylin is majestically displayed front and center. This unusual ko-imari plate is without flaw and has a slight creme color tone to the porcelain, it is very unique in terms of beauty and presentation. It measures 9.5" x 2" (24.1 cm x 5.1 cm).

Early 19th century ebony netsuke of a shishi (Buddhist lion) sitting foursquare on a base, its head turned to the right. Like any dark object does not photograph well. Wonderful netsuke carved with confidence and great detail - see its alert face, bushy tail, well defined ribs and paws. Wonderful sense of volume, beautiful lustre unique to ebony. Height 1 5/16 inches.
