Tsuba in shakudo decorated with a floral basket flown over by butterflies. Inlays (Taka Zogan) in solid gold, in fact the flowers are not in gilded copper as usual but in cast solid gold. The nanako background is particularly regular and deep. The artist used gold of two shades, a pure yellow and a pale yellow probably due to the addition of platinum or silver. This hemp Kyogen costumes hakama was used by Kyogen actors in the Edo period(1800-1867). The light green color is dyed by mixing natural bark and indigo dye.It's a very natural and beautiful color. This hemp is hand spun. Round flowers and maple patterns are impressive. This one has some wear and tear due to age. There are several small holes here. Recommended for antique textile collections. This is Indigo dye cotton & katazome dotyubaori coat textile in Edo period(1800)1868). The material is thick cotton in Edo period. Textile seems to be hand spun and woven¡It is very impressive, and beautiful. You can wear it. There is a little, thin stain. However, there is no damage, and the state is very good. Rare antique Japanese tansu chest from Takayama city in the Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. Made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood with orangish lacquer finish. A very large example of an antique Japanese Baku corbel used in a temple or shrine. The Baku is a mythical spiritual creature which resides in the Buddhist realm. Its purpose is to devour evil spirits as well as one's nightmares. Carved from one solid block of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood, this architectural sculpture has stood the test of time.

An antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made of kiri (paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including stylized gumbai handles. Two sliding kiri wood panels framed in black lacquer over two large drawers for safe keeping of inventory. Iron drawer corners feature raised seed pods suggesting this chest originated in the Yonezawa region of Japan.

This is cotton Furosiki used in Kyoto in the Edo era. It is thick, and this is good cotton of a good texture . This is dyed with an artistic portrait of a lion and Katazome of the peony pattern and a brown plain fabric. There is small holes and damage ,thin stains. However, the condition is good generally. Cut iron tsuba. Mysterious motif where two spades appear which should represent spearheads or swords. The tail of Japanese dragons is sometimes depicted in this way. The decor is simple but very elegant. The carving as well as the finish are very neat. Difficult to date with precision. Probably from the Edo period, maybe earlier. Solid gold, silver, shibuichi and sentoku inlaid shakudo tsuba. The setting presents us with a Japanese warrior slaying an enemy wearing foreign armor that seems to be Chinese or even Mongol. This could be a reference to the attempted invasion of Japan by China Mongols in the 13th century. The tsuba bears the signature of Yoshiaki who was one of the greatest artists of his time...

Japanese iron cut sword guard in silhouette of pagoda and houses in a tranquil lake landscape. Some details inlaid in gold. It feels like a long way from war. The carving is of very good quality which is not always the case on this kind of tsuba which most often are less well executed. Cast bronze vase. Very elegant unusual shape. Decorated with a dragon in high relief. Probably Japanese rather chinese and very old Edo period, 18th century or before. The metal has an excellent patina of a beautiful brown color. Below a mark with Chinese characters. 205mm x 185mm. Slightly dented, barely visible. Original patina, not cleaned.

Ink and polychromy on silk. Charming kakemono of a musician on horseback holding her samisen. A child holds out a side of her richly decorated kimono. Courtesans seem to relax. One with a fan has lost her sandal (zori) while the other 2 are preparing to enjoy a tea. A poem at the top of the painting describes the scene. It is signed by 2 stamps which can attribute this painting to Kitagawa Fujimaro (1760-1850). Dimensions of the painting: H112 x W45.5cm.

Wall vase in cast bronze, representing a dragon coiled on itself, its meandering body delimiting the contours of the vase. The casting must have been complicated and several holes and gaps appeared which were filled with welded bronze plates as can be seen in the detail photos. Late 19th century boxwood netsuke of Daikoku standing on 3 rice bales, a mallet in one hand, a bag slung over his shoulder. Daikoku is one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune, that of Wealth, rice bales being the representation of it. Nice piece, wonderful smiling face, good detailing, pleasant patina. The part of the bag protruding from his left hand is reattached. Height 1 9/16 inches.
