Late 18th to early 19th century glass ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in seed shape with multicolored spiral lines around the body. Beautifully made, wonderful feel of age, very pleasant patina. Diameter 0.75 Inches.

This is an Early 19th Century Stag Antler Netsuke depicting a curious Monkey sitting on top of a large barrel. He appears to be curiously looking out. The openings on the barrel are used naturally as himotoshi. Netsuke measures 0.84 inches (2.2cm) wide; 1.91 inches (4.8cm) long, and 2.24 inches (5.6cm) tall. It is in excellent condition as shown in the posted photos.

Early 19th century netsuke of a boy holding onto a bamboo branch next to a large ball. Netsuke illustrates one of the paragons of filial virtue, that of Moso - a young scholar who went into the woods in the middle of the winter to look for bamboo shoots, a favorite dish of his ailing and dying mother. Bamboo does not grow in the snow but the Gods were moved by his filial piety and allowed bamboo shoots to suddenly spring from the ground. The large ball probably represents a snowball...

Pair of early 19th century Japanese sword menuki depicting lobsters on a bed of sea weeds. One menuki has Daikoku mallet on top (stands for wealth), and the other a character meaning long life. Excellent work with great detailing - see various textures of the shells. Bronze with coppery patina, gilded water drops on the sea weeds, overall in great condition. Length 1 9/16 inches.

The falcon is represented resting on a branch. His expression is attentive and we can guess that he is hunting. The artist knew how to infuse him with all the ruthless savagery in his gaze. It is signed by Haru Mitsu. Storage jar with beautiful dark brown glaze drippings from the neck and shoulder down, over a dark brown stone ware with countless inclusions. Around the neck engraved with cross pattern. Shape somewhat distorted. Height 11 inches, width 10 inches. Two short cracks at the rim, one small chip at the rim, glaze partly rubbed due to extensive usage. Overall condition good. Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of yamabushi - wandering warrior priest recognizable by tokin (skull cap) on his head - sitting inside a huge shell made into a trumpet, and blowing into yet another trumpet shell. Usually for this subject the person in the shell is considered to be Benkei. Horagai - (trumpet shell - Charonia Tritonis) were often fitted with a mouthpiece on the thin end, and used as war trumpets...

Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of a crouching puppy about to pounce. Strong early piece with unusual posture, excellently captured facial expression and chunkiness of a young pup, wonderful hairwork. Eyes are inlaid with black horn, old stable age line along its back, superb wear and patina. Excellent strong netsuke. Length 1 1/4 inches.

This is Tsutsugaki firefighter coat of Edo era (1800-1860). This is cotton Hanten spun by hand of thick indigo dyeing. It is a design very impressive beautifully. Like F1 ~ F5, this has the part that some indigo blue changed. Both cuffs have damage such as F6. 108cm x 123cm (42.5 "x 48.4")

This is a finely carved and lacquered wood Ojime in the form of a Double-Sided Kyogen (Japanese Theater) character masks depicting Okina on one side and Buaku on the reverse. The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. It is not signed, but is attributed to Hozan, a netsuke-shi who worked in wood with metals and lacquer accents in Early 19th century. He was a pupil of Hojitsu. This is a kagura costume made in the Tohoku region during the Meiji period. Kagura is a dance dedicated to the gods. Several types of pigments are used to paint this item.
