Jade carving of a bat spreading its wings on one side and on another side a coin shaped motif. Bats are considered to be an auspicious animal where the name is synonymous to fortune in Chinese. The coin contains a four character engraving possibly reading: Fu Shou Quan Shuang, or roughly translated as having both fortune and longevity. The design of beautiful cherry blossom trees and herds of horses is gorgeous, elegant and lively.
It can be seen that the influence of samurai culture remains strong.
There is a light stain, but it is not noticeable. No damage.

Ink on silk painting of Kanu Tannyu's "Portrait of Shoki". Riding a shi-shi lion Shoki was know as the Demon Slayer. Shoki was the spirit of the physician Shôki who was, according to Japanese folklore, able to scare away demons and ward off evil spirits. Signed "Hoin", this is an extremely well rendered painting exhibiting fine detailing that was achieved by using a single hair. In excellent condition, the painting measures 16" long by 8.5" high...

Antique Chinese bronze censer with oval form body, high neck and rounded rectangular mouth. Standing on four feet with heads of mythical creatures. A band with a swirling motif in low relief encircles the middle of the censer. The neck of the censer is also decorated with a wave motif in a band of low relief. The lid is pierced for incense smoke and topped with a sitting Qilin.

the upper section of their hookah made from silver and the base was porcelain or crystal...
This is a mystery piece. Purchased by my mother about 30 years ago in japan. The piece is definitely quite old but the origin is not clearly Japanese, Chinese or Southeast Asian. l welcome any opinions. The glaze and patina is very attractive brown with a creme splash interior, I would venture a guess of age 18th/17th century.
