A huge lead/bronze head of Gorgoneion / Medusa, Roman Empire, 1st.-3rd. century AD.

Interesting oversized item, probably from a piece of furniture or a military cariot. Very high relief and stunning quality portrait, made in lead and bronze.

Size: 10,2 cm. tall and 9,3 cm. wide and weighing 1180 grams - 1,18 kilograms!

Ex. Private Collection in Denmark, formed in the 1980s-1990s, bought from Ancient art dealer Arne Johansen, Pilestrædet Copenhagen c. 1990.

Chinese antique blue and white dragon vase. Three-clawed dragon flying in clouds on body with molded side handles of fu dog heads. Bottom of vase with divided lapels. Unglazed bottom with reddish color. Good condition.

An exceptional and quite substantial bronze belthook, Chinese, dating to the Eastern Zhou dynasty - Warring States period (475–221 B.C.).

The gilt bronze surface cast as a feline mask embellished with twisted sashes heightened with raised commas enclosing a circular plaque; a long post terminating in a dragon's head hook. The front with fine gilt preserved in the devices, reverse with circular form knop.

Antique Japanese geta tansu (shoe storage chest). Made of sugi (cryptomeria) wood with marquetry of various woods on the front. The top sliders open to reveal a compartment with a shelf. The lower sliders open to a compartment with 2 shelves. On the right hand side is a compartment with a full height hinged door originally intended for storing umbrellas.

DESCRIPTION: A tall Japanese Sumida Gawa (Sumida River) vase featuring two hand molded children in high relief. The rim and neck of the vase are covered in a rich, dark flambé glaze that runs down the shoulders onto the ribbed body. Each of the children are perched on a ledge above and below a large, flat vase. The child at the top puts something in, while at the bottom of their vase we see a crack where water pours out...

An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood with a front Kakinoki (Persimmon) trim. All original hand forged iron hardware including the full moon lock plates and the Warabite style handles. Natural wood aged patina. Security door hides 2 small drawers where valuables were kept. Antique Indian figure of dancing Ganesha. Carved of stone, possibly serpentine. Ganesha, the Remover of Obstacles stands on one foot with knees bent as he dances. In one hand he holds a string of prayer beads and in the other, a club. By his right hand is his vehicle (vahana), a mouse. Ganesha is the beloved child of Shiva and Parvati.

A spectacular Chinese coconut wood carved crab box of the Guangxu period. Every detail is done to high excellence with the utmost attention to detail; even the the crabs with their markings are painted to realistic perfection. The basket appears woven but is itself carved. This is a rare and unusual treasure and is in perfect condition, measuring 4.5 inches high and 4.25 inches at widest point. Circa 1900

The mouth of this vase opens like the thickly petaled chrysanthemum flower over a body decorated in thin blue with a roiling landscape of lakes and trees dotted with pavilions. It is an excellent example of the Hirado tradition in the 19th century. The vase is 14 cm (5-1/2 inches) diameter,28.8 cm (11-1/2 inches) tall and is in excellent condition.

Provenance: Private Collection of Bjørn De Roepstorff, an important Danish castle / mansion collection. The family lived in Italy in the 1970s and bought a few antiquities, like this nice relief.
