Japanese antique isho tansu (clothing storage chest), made with chestnut wood drawer fronts and sugi (cryptomeria) wood frame, beautiful deep reddish brown lacquer finish on the drawer fronts and the sides and top of the chest, the frame on the front of the chest is lacquered black as is traditional with Fukashima area tansu. Unusual 19th century wood and gilded bronze netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape of a crab on a piece of driftwood. Clever design, excellent quality crisp depiction of its legs and claws, beautiful gilding. Nice patina on wood, pleasant to hold. Netsuke diameter 1 5/8 inches.

Pair of Japanese damascene candlesticks, the body of each with dramatic imagery of serpentine dragons and fireballs. The foliate petal rims decorated with chrysanthemums and coiling vines, and the tripod feet with auspicious objects and flowers. Both candlesticks are signed "Kuma" in gilt pigment on the base.
