This a beautiful and unique Japanese Satsuma bowl. Yabu pieces with unique birds like this one has are rare. The piece is very finely rendered with intense work. Condition is excellent. Japanese Meiji period cloisonné enamel lidded square form kashiki (confectionery box for tea ceremony sweets) with canted corners supported on four attached tapered and splayed legs. The lid is decorated with a variety of fans of varying shapes and designs set against a black ground; the sides are covered in a dense floral diaper pattern in blue, yellow, and brown; and the bottom is decorated in clusters of flowers and scrolling foliage set against a black background...
Cast bronze vase. Very elegant unusual shape. Decorated with a dragon in high relief. Probably Japanese rather chinese and very old Edo period, 18th century or before. The metal has an excellent patina of a beautiful brown color. Below a mark with Chinese characters.

A very interesting and rare early amulet seal, carved with archaic patterns and drill tecnique of the 6th.-5th. millenium BC, Mesopotamia.
The amulet in dark green stone is very rare and shaped almost like an insict carved on each broadside with 6 globules within a gritpattern and a typical Halaf gritpattern on the small side. Loop probably lost to wear in antiquity so a new hole was made drilling one globule through.

A Pair of antique, 19th-early 20th century, North African -Sahara, tribal Islamic, cast bronze saddle stirrups in Turkish Ottoman manner. Each with a flaring base plate narrowed at the center and decorated with a pierced designee on the center, flanked by shaped sides rising to an arch with loop for suspension.

Rare antique Japanese large kuruma tansu, wheeled storage chest. Made with keyaki (elm) wood on the front. The sides and back are reinforced with hinoki (Japanese cypress) slats. The upper portion of the chest has three full-width drawers held shut with a locking bar (bo). The lower portion has two medium sized drawers also held shut with another locking bar. On the lower right hand side is a safe box with a hinged door (with key) which opens to reveal 3 small interior drawers...
Chinese Eastern Zhou Cord-Impressed Pottery Jar (770 - 221 BC)
This fine pottery jar was made during the Eastern Zhou period (770 - 221 BC). It is made from a relatively highly-fired fine grey pottery. It has a round base that has been decorated with cord impressions that are particularly crisp. On opposing sides of the shoulder are small square-cut handles. The neck is slightly ridged for additional decoration and it has a flared mouth.

Rare Japanese chirimen silk kimono with a jacquard weave, in gradating shades of blue, with Shibori designs of flowers and flowing water, lined in salmon pink silk with flowers. Shibori is a very labor intensive style of dying fabric in which small areas are tied and twisted to create dramatic patterns. Jacquard weaving is done on a special loom and results in complex patterns.

This exquisite and rare ceramic jar from the Ayyubid period of the 12th century AD boasts a unique pear-shaped form with a short foot and a flaring neck. Cast bronze warrior with multiple patinas, partly gilded. The samurai, wielding a naginata, fights furiously. The artist may have wanted to designate here the Japanese medieval hero, Miyamoto Musashi because the latter fought bareheaded and during the fights his hair electrified by fury stood on his head. History teaches us that he would have triumphed in 60 duels during his life as a swordsman.

Simple elegant shape with decoration of various roundels on the cover, very pleasant finish with original pitting. Rare and early piece in terms of Japanese cloisonné, from the period of transition from Chinese to Japanese style. Great humble piece in Japanese taste. Length 3 3/16 inches. Antique Chinese calligraphy brush from the 19th century. The handle is made of bone, highly polished, with an incised inscription. A fine red ribbon is the hanger. The bristles are white horse hair. It measures 9.5" long.
