La Maison Carrée is one of the best preserved temples of the Roman Empire and was a major influence during the Classical Revival, inspiring Thomas Jefferson's design for the Virginia State Capitol.

Oil on tin sheet painting of a man in cowboy hat, titled on reverse backing "The Old Hat", 16" by 12" (22 1/2" by 18 3/4" framed), signed at lower right and again on the backing, by the well known artist of the American Southwest, RAMON KELLEY (born 1939). This is a sensitively painted work of a subject obviously very familiar to the artist. Kelley studied on a scholarship at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, where he counted the artist Charlie Dye among his instructors...

A rare painting by the well-listed Norwegian woman artist SIGRID LOUISE BOLLING (1853-1917), the subject a scenic fjord with towering peaks in the background, some with snow, hulking above man's humble houses on a rise at left. The work, signed but not dated at lower left, is oil on wood panel, measuring 10" by 13 1/2" (18" by 20 1/2" framed). Bolling was born in the Oslo outer borough of Vestre Aker, Norway, her father an officer and landowner, her mother Baroness Wedel-Jarlsberg...

Signed J.J. and dated 1772 on the lower right, this watercolor on wafer shows an obviously well-off woman attired in the latest finery, and with an elaborate hairdo with a lace cap.

Excellent condition, with no flaws to speak of, and measuring 1 1/2" by 1 1/4"...

A large watercolor on heavy watercolor paper, 22 1/2" by 32 1/2", unframed, the subject a classic landscape of northern New Mexico, with adobes and distant mountains prominent. The work is discretely signed at lower right edge area, and dated there 1938. The artist, FRODE DANN (1892-1984), was born in Denmark and educated in art at the Royal Academy. After a time in art restoration, he moved to the United States in 1926, there to begin a long career as painter, writer, art critic, and teacher...

Lawrence Kupferman, American, 1909-1982, drypoint etching, "Victorian Mansion," image size 14 x 12 7/8 inches, 1939, pencil signed and numbered 22/100.

A color print, 14 1/2" by 25" (23 1/2" by 33 1/2" framed), titled at lower left margin "Eve of St. John by Peter Hurd", pencil signed at lower right margin by the noted American artist, PETER HURD (1904-1984). This print, which appears to be rather scarce, dates to about 1960. It is after one of his most famous paintings, which I believe now rests in the collection of the San Diego Museum of Art...

By listed Southern California artist BERTHA TOWNSEND COLER (1865-1948), a large, bulk group of unframed works that came from the liquidation of the contents of a Pacific Palisades home, the owners related to the artist. There were many, many works by the artist at the liquidation (see the framed oils elsewhere in my shop), a number of which I procured. Rare gouache on paper circa 1940s by Emanuel Glicenstein (Glicen) Romano (American born in Italy, 1897-1984). This work measures roughly 12" by 9" (19" by 15" in its frame). It is signed Glicenstein Romano l.l. Glicenstein Romano worked for the Federal Art Project creating murals in the thirties. He created a series of allegorical works depicting the Holocaust in the forties and this work may be part of that group...

A **PAIR** of mid century offset prints after earlier works by the famous Russian-French Jewish artist MARC CHAGALL (1887-1985) These prints are both hand signed in blue ballpoint pen in margins by Chagall at lower right (considered what is called a "complimentary signature"), perhaps at a special gallery or printer event. They appear to have been framed in the 1950's or 1960's at latest and remain sealed since then. I believe the signatures to be authentic and will stand by that being the case...
