Lithograph print titled in the artist's hand on the reverse in pencil "Carol Singer", signed in the plate on front right corner and dated there 1939. The unframed print measures 11" by 8 1/4" inside an old gray mat. The artist, BENJAMIN MESSICK (1891-1981) was born in the Missouri Ozarks and served in Europe in World War I. He showed early artistic talent. After his return he was in California, studying at Chouinard in Los Angeles, and winning scholarships and awards...

A framed nicely worked crayon on paper drawing of roses (possibly, Alberta wild roses?), signed at lower right "M R 1944". The stiff wove paper sheet measures 15" by 11", and as framed (to the top of the arch), 22" by 17". The framing appears to be the 1940's original. Original acrylic on canvas painting, 18" by 13 1/2", unframed, by the noted Central Australian aboriginal artist JUNE BIRD NGALE (born c. 1954). The painting is titled on an original 1992 label of Utopia Art, Sydney, "Bush Tucker" (tucker is the Australian word for food). The label is affixed to the canvas and "June Bird" is written in pencil on the stretcher. We seem to be looking at some kind of bush or plant which would presumably have provided that food...

J-10 is an exciting example not only of Haku Maki’s depiction of Chinese characters but also his use of a hard gold-edged board (instead of simple single or multiple sheets of paper). In the last year of Maki’s life, Daniel Tretiak tells us, he was ill but continued to work. He did lithographs on shikishi board, which was a hard board covered in white rice paper. The back was yellow with a small design in gold and the whole board is gold-edged. These words apply to J-10 as well...

A circa 1920's to 1940's old reprint of the much-loved classic Currier and Ives lithograph "American Winter Scenes", with a horse-drawn sleigh heading towards the snug home at right in which a party appears to be held. The piece measures 23 1/2" by 30 1/2" in what I believe is a birdseye maple frame. Condition is very good, vintage condition. The original 19th century lithograph is very expensive; this reasonable alternative will provide the same decorative punch.
