From our African Collection: This "Ikenga" Southeast Nigerian Shrine Figure is from the Early to mid 20th century. A characteristic of all Ikenga Shrine Figures are their exaggerated bull horns. The basic form of an ikenga is a human figure with horns symbolizing power, sometimes reduced to only a head with horns on a base.

This is a Hand Colored Print. It shows the equestrian Statue of George Washington surrounded with a wreath, composed of the principle agricultural products of the Confederacy--cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, corn, wheat and rice. It is Marked "The Confederate States of America: 22 February 1862". At the bottom, the motto, "Deo Vindice" (God Favor Our Cause) The Seal was engraved by Joseph S. Wyon, Chief Engraver of Her Majesty's Seals, London, England. The Seal is 18 3/4" Diameter...

Oil on board, (ONE OF TWO BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP), 4" by 7 1/2" inside the mat (7 1/2" by 11 1/4" as framed) signed at lower left in green "Six" and dated there "32", the subject the iconic saguaro cactus of the southwestern American desert at sunset. Because that species of cactus grows naturally only in Arizona, we can assume that this is indeed an Arizona scene...

Paul Jacoulet 1896-1960 French This is one of the finest color block prints by French artist Paul Jacoulet. The title: Retour De La Jungle, Tondano: Celebes, This image was created and printed in 1948, Pencil signed, with the Sparrow seal. This image measures 15 3/4X12 inches. The artist used a fine coral powder to give dimension to the compositional colors. He also experimented with Gofun, an egg white derivative that produced a rich opaque effect...

Hughes was born and died in Los Angeles but in between she spent much time in the Provincetown art colony on Cape Cod...

Oil on paper, irregularly shaped, maximum dimensions approximately 10" by 16" and 2" wood frame, signed at lower left "S. CIEJKA". I do not see a listing for this name, which appears to be of Polish origin. The painting is in oil on paper. I think from the looks of it, a date around 1940 would not be out of line, but it is hard to tell. The colors remind me of that period, and it is obvious that the piece is not from the late 20th century. The backing board is later and says on it "Bainbrid...
