Lovely antique oil signed at extreme lower right corner by the Dutch master artist JAN JACOB COENRAD SPOHLER (1837-1923), the subject a classic canal in summer, the scene including windmills, boats, houses, churches (Utrecht, Leiden?) and tiny figures. The work measures 8 1/2" by 13 1/2" (10 1/2" by 15 1/2" in older 20th century frame). The work is very typical of his paintings, many of which show ice skaters in the winter. Larger works have reached $40,000 at auction in the Netherlands...

This is classic Indian art executed in a traditional style, though I believe it is of fairly contemporary age. The silk is backed by rather cushy, soft material. Lithograph on paper print of 1897/98, titled "Kraniche" in German, commonly known as "Cranes" or "Swans" in English, the sheet with margins 10 1/4" by 14", unframed, signed in pencil at lower left margin. This is a fine early color lithograph by the noted German artist WALTER LEISTIKOW (1865-1908). Leistikow's talent was nourished at an early age, He studied at the Royal Academy in Berlin, and by 1890 was himself an art professor at the Berlin Art and Craft School...

Watercolor on paper, 4" by 10 3/4" (8 1/4" by 15" as framed), signed at lower left with what appears as "Stribens" or "Stirbens"......I do not see a listing for such a name. I could be misreading it. In any event this is a decorative old vintage watercolor landscape by a talented artist, still in its original frame. There's no glass currently, but the work has survived the passage of time in excellent fresh condition, with only a tiny handful of foxing spots...

Mid twentieth century oil on canvas painting of a European-looking harbor, 30" by 25" (33 1/2" by 28 1/2" framed), signed at lower right in red "M. Davies". The work, signed again on reverse and titled there "The Early Start", is painted in an impressionist hand by a talented artist who I have to date been unable to identify. The work is in very good condition; yellowed varnish could stand to be removed but you would not have to do this. There is a slight smoke smell close up...

19th Century American School 1800-1899 American Artists This is an original oil on canvas painting, signed and dated lower right, but we cannot make out who the artist was. This painting of Harbor Traffic is dated 1874. Possibly the work of Francis Silva. The painting measures 12X20 inches. We are calling this work 19th century American School. Nicely framed in a period gilt frame. Fine detail and color, this is an outstanding work of art.

Esther Anna Hunt (1875-1951) is known today in California art circles as a keen observer of the traditional culture as displayed in San Francisco's Chinatown. Her paintings and plaster bust models of young girls in traditional costume make regular appearances in auctions of California art. This work appears to have been created by one of Hunt's many early 20th century imitators. Unsigned, there are what appear to be initials "M.E.E." on the inside of the mat and on the inside of the backing...
