Drypoint etching print "Chattes" (Cats) published in Paris in the year 1909 by Gustave Pellet, 8 3/4" by 12 1/4" inside the inner fillet, 17 3/4" by 21 3/4" as nicely framed, numbered in pencil 38/50 (and faint red cypher stamp) at lower right margin, and pencil signed by the artist at lower center right margin. There is a crease in each lower corner that I believe likely dates to the time of printing, and there are a few foxing spots, but the overall appearance is excellent...

They are lithographs, each signed and with a Maki seal. They also appeared as prints at the same time. Haku Maki or his family produced them in the last year or so of his life.

A competently painted, luminous little work on canvas, 12" by 16" (17 1/4" by 21" framed), the subject high mountains in full fall color, likely the Rockies in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana or Idaho (or, possibly, even Canada). The artist signed the painting "C H Wells" at lower right. The painting likely dates to the 1970's or 1980's. While I do not see a listing for an artist by this name, he or she was clearly talented. The eye is drawn deep into this spacious and pleasant scene...

American watercolor painting on heavy watercolor paper, of trees in a shaded landscape, circa mid 20th century. The unsigned work measures 15 1/2" by 22 1/2" (unframed). Condition is excellent; small pinholes in corners where the artist had this affixed while working on it. Could probably be sent rolled in a tube for savings on shipping.
Watercolor on paper, unframed, 13 3/4" by 21 3/4", the subject a New England coastal scene with rocks, distant sailboats, and a lighthouse on a headland, the work signed at lower left. This is a typical watercolor painting by the noted artist OTIS S. WEBER (1847-) of New England. Although he is listed, and works sell regularly at auction, not a lot seems to be known about Weber's life and career, but paintings dated as early as 1876 are known. He seems to have worked into the 20th century...

Simpkins was the son of Canadian artist Henry J...

Ink drawing on heavy card, with a bit of black watercolor in the darker areas, the subject an adorable pug wearing a collar with "William Rifle" on it, and at lower right is written in longhand "Robert Glover Age 7 years"; and at lower left corner within the hand drawn border is the date, "94". I am not sure which one of these names be that of the artist, or if a name is actually that of the pug...
This carved agate contemporary snuff bottle is 2 ¾” high, 1 ¾” wide and 1 ¼” thick. The lighter part was carved as “Buddha hand citron” shape and used as the body of the bottle. The darker color agate was carved into a small bug which is resting on the fruit. It is well hollowed, polished and in great condition.
Gouache on paper on board, 17 1/2" by 12 1/2" and 1 1/2" frame/mat, signed at lower right "MIZEN". This work has the feel of illustration art, and well it should as FREDERIC KIMBALL MIZEN (1888-1964) was a noted illustration artist, having done covers for the Saturday Evening Post. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators. Mizen studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a student of the great Taos master Walter Ufer. Mizen's oils sell at major auctions...
Large unframed oil on canvas painting of three central figures chatting, other figures in the distance, 24" by 36", painted in a highly impressionist manner, and signed at lower left with the familiar "Buenaventura" signature. The artist is either ALFREDO BUENAVENTURA (1942-1982) or his uncle CESAR BUENAVENTURA (1922-1983). I cannot be certain because their works often look very similar, as do their signatures, and in this case the beginning of the signature is difficult to discern...

Oil on canvas painting of flowers in a green glass vase on a table top, a curtain, fruits in a dish and a cup completing the scene. The work does not appear to be signed on the front; on the reverse side is written "Sprague". The painting, 20" by 16" (24" by 20" in cream colored frame) likely dates to about the year 1950. It is in excellent condition save for a pressure dimple, not quite a full puncture, at upper left----also visible from the reverse side near the end of "Sprague". Most like...

Oil on canvas laid on board landscape of a river in a mountainous scene including a few picturesque structures, signed with initials "LJGC" at lower left, and dated there 1904. There is a high likelihood that the artist who created this attractive painting was from mountainous Wales in the British Isles, as I have seen another painting online, identically signed, dated 1914, the scene depicted in that example given as the River Wye in Wales. The work measures 14" by 16 1/2" and 18 1/2" by 21"...
Claude Charles Buck, Santa cruz, California, 1890-1974. This stunning jewel is Claude Buck at his usual dreamy best. A truly lovely and engaging portrait miniature, on natural wafer, of a beautiful young woman. The subject, attired in a green velvet dress with a black cape and a white fichu, is seated in front of an orange drapery with a view of a landscape. The framing of this gem is of fine construction, with an inner gold plated frame that is easily removable (and replaced) if a smaller overall size is desired. Both frames are in very fine order.
The condition of the painting is excellent, with bright col...
An American Federal period portrait miniature of a lady circa 1800. This well painted antique miniature painting on ivory measures 2-5/8" x 2-1/8" is under a glass cover. The portrait features a woman with draped headdress and white dress. She is extremely well painted, and the case is leather over wood with a brass clasp. The cases were sometimes replaced over the years, so we can't that it is original to the portrait, although it may be. It is unsigned and the artist and subject are unidenti...
Oil on canvas impressionist painting of flowers in a vase on a tabletop with porcelain tea set, a window at left providing a view to a more distant landscape beyond, 24 1/2" by 20 1/2" in narrow wood frame. By the hand of the noted Polish-born Jewish artist who spent most of his life in California, BERNARD BARUCH ZAKHEIM (1896-1985) is this very early (1929) watercolor study "Mural Design for Monterey Calif". We see an image of a number of figures evidently hard at work in a landscape (possibly harvesting). The watercolor, 11 1/2" by 12" and 14" by 15 1/2" framed, dates to less than a decade after the artist arrived in California. Zakheim was born in Poland, and studied art in Danzig, Warsaw, ...
