This dramatic Big Red—a name Daniel Tretiak attached to Haku Maki’s large red prints, usually of single Chinese characters (kanji) on black backgrounds—is a character meaning ordinary or commonplace. But Maki has done it in a stand-out way. It is 17.5in W x 24.5inH. A beautiful abstract oil painting measuring 20x28 inches framed in a dark mahogany frame measuring 24x32”

This is a pair of engravings from Peterson's Magazine, 1877 and 1882, both nicely hand colored. Size as framed 18" by 20". The prints, titled "Les Modes Parisiennes" are very clean inside the mats. There are vertical central creases as no doubt issued. These would make for a pleasing addition to a bedroom or lady's feminine dressing area. Allow for reflections in some images.
