Bedouin carved stag Cane-Ca. 1935-Carved nicely with two color glass eyes, horn collar, oak shaft and a copper ferrule. Size; Handle measures 3"H x 2" W and overall length of cane is 31 3/4 inches, good condition.

This tumbler vase is part of the Martele Line produced by Consolidated Glass Company during the 1920's. The pattern is called 'Katydid', though it's usually referred to as the 'grasshopper' vase. 8 inches tall, the color of the glass is blue crystal. (The color is in the glass, not a wash applied over clear glass.) Excellent condition and very hard to find in this color.

This is a Hazara woman's hat from Bamiyan province in central Afghanistan. Circumference: 51.5 cm; Diameter: 18 cm. The embroidery technique is satin stitch in pink and yellow silk thread on a green polyester ground. Its condition is excellent given its age (mid 20th century). No spots, bleeding, etc.

Bashofu kimono hand-woven of ito-basho, which is a family of banana tree, for both wefts and warps. The brown stripe yarn and warp kasuri yarn are dyed with Sharinbai, a family of the rose tree. The small weft kasri yarn is dyed with Ryukyu ai, vegetable indigo in Okinawa. Bashofu has been woven in many islands in Okinawa from old days, for everyday kimono or work wear. From our Southeast Asia Collection, a small but fine Burmese ink on palm leaf sutra with thayo embossed wood covers, depicting Buddha under the Bodhi Tree of Enlightenment flanked by two adorants in the center medallion, then encircled by disciples and zoomorphic entities in the surrounding images. The reverse side contains sutra writings in Burmese script, not yet translated...

Japanese bronze suiban, or shallow dish for the arranging of viewing stones called suiseki and small plants. It is of a rectangular form with four feet, the sides forged with scrolling vine motifs and two handles. Signature on underside.

Blue and white brush pot, slightly waisted, done with two central floral motifs on either side surrounded by a scroll pattern. The base has a center recess which is glazed. Glazed white on the inside. Unmarked.

Age: Qing Dynasty (late 19th to early 20th). There is a possibility that this brush pot could also date to the Kangxi period (1662-1722) when these types of bases were common...
