A watercolor mixed media (some pencil and perhaps gouache) painting of a weathered Native American or other classic male image of the Southwest, signed at lower left "J W Kolstad". The piece measures 10 1/2" by 10 1/2" inside the black mat and 18" by 17" as framed. Reminiscent of some works by Remington or Lon Megargee, this is a very satisfying southwestern piece. Condition is excellent. The date of execution would likely be 1960's or 1970's.

Fleece-lined and hand-made using the old fashioned traditional Chinese methods, only the mid 20th century fabric of the lining and ears identify these shoes as a later made at a later time period. They were probably made by a dotting grandmother and were well worn by a young child.

Fun group lot a 19th c Chinese Peking glass bead necklace (needs stringing) 32 violet cobalt blue beads , a nice late 19th or early 20th c Japanese lacquer box with lid with Fuji a Village house and a view of the bay in shades of gold leaf and a green resin and ? molded figure of Guanyin. Vintage pair of cut jadeite pieces to be used as Chinese scholar’s scroll weights. Stone of olive green color with natural lines and differently colored veins, sides showing the skin of the boulder from which the pieces were cut. Nicely polished, very pleasing objects for a scholar’s desk. Height (left one of the first photo) 2 11/16 inches, weight of the left one 265 grams (9.4 ounces), the right one 210 grams (7.4 ounces).

Palm Wine Drinking Cup, 20th Century Lele people; Democratic Republic of the Congo Wood; well carved portrait with some interior staining from use. Size h 8.5" w 6"

Set of three Chinese Qingbai celadon glaze bowls with incised design on the inside. The outside glazed the same, but left blank. The foot rims and bases as well as the top rims left unglazed.

Size: All bowls are approximately 6" diameter by 2-3/8" high

Condition: Two of the bowls are in good condition with the exception of some minor kiln imperfections due to firing. The third bowl has a rim crack and also a chip. Refer to pictures.

This Native American watch cuff has 2 turquoise sea-foam nuggets in a blue-green color with lots of pitting and an irregular surface. It also has a piece of red coral. Both the turquoise and the coral are set in toothed bezels. It has the letters "BS" incised in the back of the bracelet.

Fine lot of two silver items, incl. a broad bracelet and a large silver Concho plaque with central torquise, Indian, Navaho. c. mid. 20th. century.

Attractive pieces, the Concho with sterling silver stamps, both are in fine 925 sterling silver.

Japanese vase of convex shape, Totai decoration of a bird and a butterfly among leaves and berry bushes. The motif created by thin metal threads is filled in with colored lacquer and polished. The brown lacquer background is carved as to resemble tree bark (totai). This complicated technique for decoration on porcelain was in use in Japan in the 1920’s and 30’s.The base with old paper label, indistinct letters in blue and the word “Lacquer”. Fire lighting implement consisting of a piece of iron, pieces of fabric and a fragment of flint stone, the whole set being contained in a rattan box. This implement belonged formerly to a member of a tribe located in Palawan Island, South West of the Philipino Archipelago. Such tribe, like a few others in this island, has in some aspects remained in the Stone Age. It was put under the protection of the Philipino Government some 40 years ago. The closed box length is 7 5/8" (19,2 cm)...

String instrument ("saranghi") made of wood, decorated on its top with a human figure. Fine dark brown glossy patina. Himalayan region, early 20th century. Height: 42 cm. The sarangi is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Very good condition. NOTE: collected in Nepal in 1974.
