Large Horse Head Festival Mask from Orissa, an area of India renowned for centuries for its fine sculpture. A beautiful, colorful and large example, 2 feet (61cm) in height. From the collection of Irwin Hersey, renowned author on Asian and primitive art, and publisher of the Primitive Art Newsletter in the 1970s. Irwin Hersey was an advisor to museums and prominent collectors, and vetted pieces for many of the international tribal art fairs and Asian art fairs.

Wonderful pair of horse prints by Japanese artist Urushibara Mokuchu 1888-1953). These Zen style horses are beautifully designed and printed with calligraphic line work similar to traditional sumi ink paintings. A classic Japanese subject rendered in bold black, crisp white, and soft tones of grey. Pencil signatures at lower right, red seal on both. Undated, estimated to be circa 1940's. Both under glass in period frames

Japanese 20th century roof tile. The tile has a rabbit flying over the ocean, nicely carved into the top. The rabbit and waves are done in nice detail. The piece measures 11 1/4" wide, 10" tall and 6 1/4" deep.

Japanese mid 20th century pure silver pair of cranes and bronze tortoise on large bronze base. The base is done as a small rocky hill with bamboo growing. Very rare carving of the Three Wise Monkeys, sanzaru in Japanese, sitting on two logs. The one who hears no evil (kikazaru) and the one who speaks no evil (iwazaru) are sitting together. A little separated from them sits the one that sees no evil (mizaru). Carved in facet-cut (abstracted style) in soft cedar wood (sugi).

Signature in the bottom: Masahide.
