Japanese Meiji period bronze censer or pot decorated in high relief with two opposing panels, one featuring Chinese scholars in a pine grove and a second with an old man and child under cherry trees. Lion head relief handles at the two sides. Circa 1900. 7" high x 7 1/4" diameter. Weighs 5 lbs. Very good overall condition with a nice patina.

Cast bronze incense burner, supported by three feet, on the sides, two Buddhist lions form the handles. The object was not cast in one go, indeed the handles and the feet were cast separately and welded, which for the feet is unusual. This seems to announce a lack of technique due to modest provincial craftsmen working in isolated regions. The bronze has casting defects, holes and burrs and the finishes are sketchy...

This is a japanese antique boro patched of dark brown hemp Mosquito net fabric. It is an old mosquito net textile from the meiji era (1868-1911). The beautiful color of the persimmon tannin dye is slightly soft to the touch. The brown color of persimmon dyeing has changed beautifully over time. A Gorham Copper and Silver Champagne Ice Bucket made for the "Commonwealth", the last of the luxurious ships from the New England Steamship Company Fall River Line circa 1908.
