UNITED STATES WATCH Co. Marion Watch Co. Marion New Jersey 1865 – 1877

The United States Watch Company was chartered in 1865, and the factory building was started in August 1865 and was completed in 1866. The first watch, called “The Frederic Atherton” was not put on the market until March, 1867. It was Americas first mass produced stem wind watch. Rare movement tin. AMERICAN WALTHAM WATCH Co. 16 Size MOVEMENT TIN with STEM & CROWN 1870. Marked: AMERICAN WATCH Co. Exposition model with the original glass on both side for easy viewing. Early Waltham Salesman and Jewelers presented movements in these easy view tins to show dial and movement choices. Very rare because when closed you can wind the watch as if it was in its final watch case. THIS IS A FINE COLLECTIBLE. DON'T INVEST IN THE STOCK MARKET or BONDS...

Very nice poplar Shaker bonnet with a label marking the size as a 5. They were also made in size #6 and size #7. The bonnets were sold by the Shakers in their gift shops but they were not made by the Shakers. This one is in very good condition. It does have a few brown stains at the top of the brim edge, see photo. This is just about as good as you can get for this type of Shaker bonnet.

The rectangular pouch made of different Persian silk fabrics with cotton lining and two buttons. The kohl etui worked of ruby velvet with raised embroidery in couched metal lamellae, the sides are sewn together. Women's pouches in Qajar Persia were used for different purposes as storing kohl, veil, prayer stone, comb, quran etc. Please visit www.qajarwomen.org. Condition: traces of usage and age, few thin areas, lining with tiny holes. Dimension c.: 8.7 x 8.5 cm, 13 x 6.5 cm.

Antique Chinese jade carving of a recumbent horse. Seated on it's haunches, it's hooves curved underneath it's body, the horse looks back over it's shoulder. Details of face, main and tail accent the pleasing arch of the horse's neck. Carved of yellow and brown mottled jade.

Late 1800's antique sterling silver tea ball with chain and finger ring. Teaball is decorated with beaded rim and cap. Made by Gorham, hallmarked, and in very good original condition, the infuser measures 1.75" x 1.5", total length including chain and finger ring is 6 inches. T

A fine and rare example of the antique, circa 1850 "kupka - kupke," a cap with wig. This type of Kupka was worn by well-to-do religious Jewish women on the Sabbath and holidays in Poland in the 19th century...

A double crane embroidered with white silk thread on dark blue ground, made for a civilian official of first to third rank, a square showing a pair of white cranes above foaming stylized wave and rock work below clouds, worked in the shades of blue, white, pink, yellow, orange, green, purple and brown on the blue silk ground...

Two small rectangular pouches and an etui for a comb. Made of termeh wool fabric with boteh motif or floral stripes, partially embellished with velvet and gold braids. Two with monochrome silk or cotton lining, the comb's pouch lined with printed cotton "qalamkar", this one with a later snap closure. A matched pair of Chinese Export porcelain plates circa 1820,each with beautiful vase design. Fully signed, each of the pairs in fine condition, done in a rare Octagon shape, each measuring 9” across.

This fire screen is mounted on a mahogany tri foot pole. The needlepoint is made of wool and silk. The entire piece measures 54 inches high. The screen is 19 1/2 inches by 26 inches. This dates late 19th century. This item is available for local pickup, only.

Small dish in Chinese porcelain, green enamel decoration of lotus flowers, tendrils and bats, details in black. Two Chinese characters "Shou" are enameled in red and gold. All this symbolizes longevity (shou), happiness (bat) and Buddha (lotus). However the Lotus flower is not exclusively the symbol of Buddhism, it can also be interpreted here as the marital agreement because there are 2 flowers or serenity or self-fulfillment. Everyone will interpret according to their desires...

Antique flannel dog filled with grain or sawdust that makes him feel like a bean bag and allows him to stand nicely. He has big bead eyes and replaced floppy ears. The original ears must have been further back where you see a white patch. That patch is white flannel that hasn't gotten dirty. He has a couple of mends but is old and nice and has a bit of a worried look. He is 7 1/2" long and 6" tall. (His ears are a wool knit fabric that looks like they have been there for a while.)
