The design is cast in relief on the obverse of this Mirror depicts a ship sailing on a stormy sea.
A large dragon arises from the upper left and the right with clouds of spray cap the surging
waves. At the top, above the ship’s banner, are four character inscriptions in archaic
seal style script: Huang Pi Chang Chon (clear, vast, luminous heaven) with a good silver-greenish patina on the face and back...
This is an old Japanese towel rack, sometimes called a children’s kimono stand. The metal work is in traditional style and the mounts have been used on many different kinds of lacquer pieces throughout the Edo period. The chrysanthemum mons (family crests) on each end of the mount, were used by the Emperor, royal princes and others outside the Imperial family, in a variety of forms. A rarely carved secular version of the Buffalo Dance figure. Circa 1920. Having secular eyes, a buffalo dance headdress with horns, kilt, arm bands, and moccasins, and wearing a decorative, wooden, tail-like appendage. Excellent condition with only minor paint loss. In the four decades that I've been collecting and dealing kachinas, this is the first Buffalo Dance figure I've had. Dimensions: 8 1/2" tall.

He appears in Mixed Kachina Dances and sometimes a group of Koyemsi appear in a dance of their own. At First Mesa they are said to sing Zuni songs...
Chinese pair of silk rank badges, decorated with blue phoenix birds, applied all over with silver wrapped thread in designs of swirling clouds and the moon. The phoenix stands on a rock with crashing waves all around. 19th century. Framed.

This Japanese red lacquered wooden serving platter or tray is 13 inches in diameter. It is carved as a bream, which is the Japanese fish symbol for the "bounty of the sea". There are several layers of different colors of red lacquer which heighten the fluid appearence of the fish. The surface is slightly dulled with use and age, the charger is in wonderful condition.
Antique Japanese jingasa, a special protective hat worn by samurai. It is covered in a special lacquer called "tatake nuri" and is decorated with a star shaped like blades, and delicate carvings around the finial. The underside is lacquered in red with old cloth and string. Edo period (1615-1868)

Japanese Buddhist temple stand for a bell bowl with a beautiful red lacquer, black lacquer bottom, and gold lacquered accenting. Bell bowls (or singing bowls) are played by striking the rim with a padded mallet. The sound is used for relaxation and meditation. Meiji period (1867-1912)

A very rare early 18th c Jingdezhen monochrome celadon jar, of a well-proportioned baluster form nearly identical to those seen on Kangxi period blue and whites...
It is indigo dyeing cotton Yogi of the Edo era. It uses technique of the ombre dyeing. It is dyeing of the high technique.
It is handspan, handwoven and it is dyed with an indigo plant of nature. It has several places of repair traces. There is not the stain.
It is all original in the Edo era.

A Massive 5 Light Silver Plated Candelabra by Victor Silver Co.(part of Derby Silver Co., and merged with International Silver Co. in 1898), Shelton, CT. 1880's; The Weight is 72 ounces, height, 13.5" and the width 11.5". From the 1880's and in very good condition.
A hand carved cottonwood Hopi Kachina Doll, representing a variant of the Kwasus Alektaqa Kachina, circa 1880. Provenance: Harrisburg, PA - collection acquired in 1940s from Arizona University. 11" tall.
It's a variant of the Butterlfy Kachina from Jemez that went to Zuni before it reached the Hopi. Its name is Poli Sio Hemis. White and red case mask, tableta similar to Hemis Kachina except for the addition of a tube mouth. White kilt, sash, etc. White,red, and yellow body paint. Ordinary Kachina dance.
