Twelve eight pointed stars made of cotton printed in orange with small yellow clover-like shapes arranged in rows of twos and threes with alternating white squares all enclosed in three bands of the same printed fabric. The outside band is turned over the edge to join the white cotton backing. Cotton seeds visible in the stuffing. All hand stitched. Very good quilting with running feathers and cross stitching over much of the surface. There is an embroidered, “E” on the back in one corner...

Dating from early-to-mid Edo the shape of this unique Karatsu piece is referred to as a “takadai-zara” in Japanese, or high-footed serving platter. Modeled on similar Korean pieces from the early Joseon Dynasty, the platter was made using coarse, unrefined clay with high iron oxide content. The clay which forms the bowl shows impurities, intentional pitting, and small stones peeking through the clay making for an interesting ceramic landscape...

Antique Japanese bronze mizusashi with lid, decorated with waves. The mizusashi is a vessel used during the Japanese tea ceremony to hold water. The body of the container has a dragon's head on each side with a bronze ring. The lid is decorated with a band of waves, the handle is rounded. Meiji period, 1868-1912. Antique Chinese cloisonne box decorated with a beautiful floral pattern of chrysanthemums, peonies, and other flowers. The lid of the box is hinged, it has an auspicious symbol in the middle of the box. The box is supported by four small round metal feet, the underside is sky blue. This is a finely hand-carved Japanese Netsuke depicting a Man who is kneeling on a platform or base, while feeding a treat to his dog. Excellent detail and expression. Great two-tone patina. Outstanding huge chimney himotoshi, common of netsuke from this period. Unsigned. Base measure 1.14 X 0.86 inches (2.8 X 2.1cm) Netsuke is 1.78 inches (4.5cm) tall. Netsuke is in excellent preserved condition.
