Three antique framed written fragments of different sutras from the Tripiṭaka in Chinese translation.
The one on the right is a passage from the Sutra of the Buddha Proclaiming the Names of Buddhas, probably a Chinese translation of the Bhadrakalpika Sūtra. Closest translation:
Śāriputra, passing through a hundred buddhalands, there is a world called Virtue, and there a Buddha called the Arhat of Sunlight Radiance, Samyaksaṃbuddha, is now expounding on the Dharma...

Very unusual 19th century mixed metal and wood netsuke of a boy quietly playing a reed flute while leaning against a side of a resting buffalo, 2 baskets next to him. The subject is ushidoji (also called bokudo) symbolizing the perfect peace of mind, and is considered to be one of the stages on the way to the Buddhahood. Charming Chinese antique painting of a brown and white Pekingese dog, very beautifully painted with attention paid to every strand of hair. The dog crouches with tail up as if ready to play. The scenery is grassy with rocks and cymbidium orchids. Painted in ink and mineral colors on paper. 19th century. 19th century Japanese Asakusa school staghorn kiseruzutsu - tobacco pipe case - carved with a scholarly landscape with a temple among hills and rocks by a pine tree, and a village in the distance. Clever carving incorporating porous texture of its center as element of design, nicely chunky. Beautiful wear and patina, in great condition. Length 8 inches.

The frog (kaeru) is associated with luck and wealth. Kaeru means both "frog" and "coming home" in Japanese. This extension of meaning is due to the ability of the frog to return each year to the pond of its birth. A gong in the shape of a frog can thus sometimes be used as a door hammer or to protect a house.

This ornately hand carved hard wooden frame comes with antique Chines lithograph of the summer palace. The frame is approx 8.5 x 13 inches...

This is a finely carved 19th century Japanese Netsuke depicting a Standing Samurai, wearing a typical caped robe, who is holding a box with both hands. Stained for effect; rich patina. Unsigned. Netsuke measures 0.76 inches (2.0cm), and 1.47 inches (3.8cm) tall. Netsuke is in excellent condition, as may be seen in the posted photos.

19th century Persian silver melon shape salt shaker with repousse branch on top surrounded by a band of small flowers, and with pendant drapery in every sector of the bottom part. Last quarter of 19th century, Qajar dynisty era, very well made, two parts fit snugly, in excellent vintage condition, nicely tarnished (can be cleaned with silver tarnish remover in a minute if needed). Hallmarked with 2 characters on the bottom. Diameter 2 inches, height 2 inches, weight 1.45 ounces (41 grams).

19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved as Zen Buddhism patriarch Daruma enveloped in his monastic robe. Excellent face with expression of extreme concentration, superb warm patina, very pleasing shape. Height 11/16 inches. Wooden stand used for photography is not included.

DESCRIPTION: A Qing Dynasty Chinese scroll painting depicting a seated Chinese deity with a large blue foo dog mask in his lap and two attendants at his feet. All figures have ornate colorful robes and auroras around their heads. An inscription can be found at the lower middle between the two attendants. CONDITION: “Waves” in paper from being rolled; colors and images are bright; painting has been remounted on white paper-backed silk...

A very fine Japanese gilt blue and white charger decorated with phoenixes, dragons, peonies and other motifs. There is a six characters Chinese Chenghua mark inside the foot-rim, but I would date it to 18th or 19th century. The charger is in excellent condition besides some faded gilt and one kiln fault spot(see photo #2); no cracks or chips. Diameter: 15-7/8".

Unusual 19th century Persian brass betel box with hinged cover and chiseled designs: the top with equestrian lion hunt, the bottom with a scene of a person with long scimitar slaying a man with several figures and a dog watching, the sides with friezes of various animals: lions, dogs and birds. The scenes must be a reference to some literary story...

19th century tall netsuke carved as a dancing fox standing on its hind legs with its front paws raised to one side and its tail erect. This particular model seems to represent the Inari fox - the benevolent and well disposed creature, being the messenger of the God of rice and harvest, as opposed to the other foxes, which are generally believed to be evil creatures...

Five 19th century Chinese School export paintings showing a torture, punishment or execution scene. Painted with watercolor on peepal leaf, fixed with an iridiscent glaze, individually framed in a later red lacquer frame. Condition: fine, few traces of usage. Dimension: frame: c. 19.3 x 16.5 cm, leaf: c. 14 cm high.

19th century netsuke of a fresh tangerine on top of a dried persimmon containing a minute landscape with houses and trees. Superbly carved elegant piece in Japanese taste, wonderful mellow patina and beautiful wear consistent with age. Great depiction of skin textures. Signed MASAYOSHI on the bottom - Sato Masayoshi was a brilliant artist, listed on p. 742 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick.
