19th century Japanese iron mae-kanagu (tobacco pouch clasp fitting) depicting two toys - a hobby horse and a bird on wheels. Iron is notoriously difficult to work with. Very nice design, wonderful detailing, gold inlays. Length 1 1/2 inches.

This unique Satsuma vase is hand potted and shaped to resemble a cloth bag with a tied sash drawing in the neck. The piece is unsigned, but is definitely by a master artist. There a two main panels of figures, one of a group of Lohan gathered around a dragon and the other showing young children studying scrolls. The gilt borders surrounding the panels are very well done...

19th century mixed material netsuke in kagamibuta (mirror lid) form. The top is mounted with a bronze or shakudo galloping horse, gilding to the eye and spots on its body, superb crisp work. Beautifully captured sense of motion, great patina, old age lines, swinging metal loop on the back for the cord, compressed dust on the surface. Length 1 3/8 inches.
19th century netsuke of the famous warrior and statesman Takeshiuchi no Sukune cradling a boy on one hand, and a kneeling man with a sword and wearing a eboshi hat. The boy is the son of the Empress Jingo and is the future Emperor Ojin, to whose education Takeshiuchi devoted his later life. Superbly carved, great faces, elaborate hair and clothing arrangement and excellent textile patterns...
Interesting and rare Dragon (Naga) highly tinned or silver content bronze opium weight, Laotian or Lanna, 19th. century AD.

Wood is lacquered in Negoro style - red lacquer over black, so as it wears the black starts showing, and then wood, thus adding yet another color to the piece. Oversize (almost 18" tall) double-gourd shaped Kinkozan Satsuma vase, circa 1880. This outstanding vase is signed (appears to read: "Dai Nihon--Kinkozan Tsukuru"). This vase was repaired early in its career with four metal staples. An extremely rare form. Displays a wonderful tension between the formal middle apron and the zen-like top and bottom.
Perfectly shaped Shino Chawan with beautifully crackled Shino glaze and with the image of 3 Noh mai dancers.
It is extremely rare to find an antique tea bowl with a Noh mai dance motif.

19th century marine material ball shaped ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in the round with a praying mantis crouching among leaves and plants including a chrysanthemum and several hozuki (Chinese lantern fruit), central hole with terminals surrounded by carved florets. Wonderful carving, excellent staining, beautiful wear and warm patina. Height 5/8 inches.
Late 19th century Chinese jade seal carved out of a jade boulder. True nephrite jade with russet original skin of the boulder, pleasant natural matte finish to the stone. The bottom is carved with raised characters that can be translated as STUDIO OF GREAT ELEGANCE, traces of red seal paste in the grooves. Wonderful austere piece appropriate for scholar’s table. Height 1 3/16 inches, length 1 1/2 inches.
Large late Qing dynasty Guangxu period Straits lidded baluster form jar, or "general's helmet jar" (jiang jun guan), decorated in underglaze blue against a white porcelain background with four “shuangxi” symbols (indicating double-happiness and wedded bliss) surrounded by a stylized pattern of pencil style scrolling sweet pea flowers and vines (symbolizing “many children”). The interior and base are glazed but the foot rim and mouth are unglazed...

Chinese 19th Century Famille Verte Porcelain Pillow, Ca. mid to late 1800's, 9 3/4" wide-front, 6" deep, 6 3/8" high-front lower part, with overglaze enamel decorated of double Peacocks on the mosey rocks draped by Plum tree branches and flowers in the front lower part. Couple Swans with giant Lotus flowers and Pods in the backside of the higher part, and bottom is not decorated, shows orange peel surface...
