This is a very well carved early 20th century ivory fan. The front is carved as grapes and leaves; the back and ribs are plain. The loop which holds the fan ribs together also is made of ivory. It is 7 ¾ inches long and 13 ½ inches wide (open). The silk ribbon is a replacement. It is in great condition.

Rich patina jizaikagi hearth fish from the Taisho Period C.1920. The pot stabalizers had an iron rod through the fish that went up into a long bamboo pole that had an iron hook on the bottom to hold the iron pot over the hearth fire in old japanese farm houses. This early 20th century ivory carving of a young woman is 12 1/8“ high (13 3/4” high with hardwood carved base), 2 1/8” wide and 1 ¾” thick. She wears a simple and elegant robe and holds a flower in front of her. The carving is superb and is in excellent condition. More detailed photos are available.

The charming old tribal womans purse is heavily embroidered on each side and is decorated with mirrors and cowrie shells. Condition is very good, no rips, no tears, just beautifully faded vegetable dyes.

Chogappo made of fragments of choma (ramie), one of bast fibers, which is recycled from white and dyed ramie textiles. Pojagi is the general name for the wrapping cloth and "chogappo" is one kind of pojagi which is patchworked with asa (choma or hemp) fragments. This very well carved ivory beauty is an early 20th century product. It depicts a young lady holding a round fan in her left hand and carrying a flower basket on her right shoulder. It is 12 ¾” high (with wood base, it is 16” high), 2 ½” wide from her shoulders and 2” thick. Aside from one small age crack line on the base of the ivory, it is in excellent condition.

Magnificent set of Kamisugi Sake Brewery bronze doors from the Taisho Period, C.1920. One door has gold gilt wood letters reading 'Kamisugi' the other 'Shikishima', both sake brands. Remarkable and exceedingly rare bronze life-size kannon statue. From a buddhist temple, c. 1920. Holding a lotus about to blossom. Had a halo but had damage so we are selling without it.
