Suzuki Shonen (1848-1918) was a Japanese painter from the Meiji(1868-1912) to Taisho periods(1912-1926).
Born as Suzuki Hyakunen's eldest son, he learned painting from his father from an early age.
Shonen became a teacher at the Kyoto Prefectural Painting School in 1898. He was good at portrait painting and received awards at national industrial exhibitions, etc...
A carefully formed firestone in a fine grained stone, dating to Ironage, Pre Roman Period, c. 1st - 4th cent AD
Firestones were used to produce sparks in combination with an iron striker.

An antique Hon Kotansu (personal book storage chest) made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. Two hinged Biraki doors open to a split level shelf where books and other personal belongings were stored. Two side by side drawers below gave additional storage space for organizing. Straight dovetail joinery with hardened wood nails were used in its construction.

Edo period. Made of a rought piece of sugi (japanese cedar). The inner part has been lacquered with a fine negoro. The borders, following the natural lines of the wood, have been sculpted in a very unusual and interesting form.

Antique pair of Turkish square side tables with elaborate mashrabiya openwork on the sides. This traditional Islamic lattice work is the same that is used on mashrabiya balconies, an architectural element used to help cool the upper floors of buildings. The tops of the tables are inlaid with mother of pearl with a star form in the center and bands of geometric tessellations on the exterior border.

A porcelain figure of Guanyin (the Chinese "Goddess of Mercy") seated on a lotus 'throne' attractively painted with bright famille rose / fencai enamels. This item was made in south China during the reign of the Jiaqing Emperor (1796-1820).

Japanese hand-forged iron tsuba, used to protect a swordsman's hand from sliding up the blade during use as well as to provide balance. The openwork tsuba depicting two sages, their robes accented in gilt, one sage with a face of silver and the other with a face of copper. The front image is signed 'Soheishi Nyudo Soten' , the other side reads 'Goshu Hikone ju' (resides in Goshu-current Shiga prefecture).
