LARGE Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Caiyuan Culture (c. 2600 - 2200 BC)

This large and impressive pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Caiyuan Culture (c. 2600 - 2200 BC) and has been excavated from the Ningxia Autonomous Region in the north of China. Very small, black lacquered shrine (gilded on the inside) with inside the wooden figure of the Bodhisattva Marishi-ten in three-headed form (left head is a boar's head), sitting on a lotus base carried on the backs of seven boars. In his hands he holds a branch of the asoka tree, a sword, bow and arrows. The carving is slightly abstracted, but nevertheless full of detail...

An exceptional example of the antique Ethiopian Coptic Christian processional cross of unusual form 17th -18th century Ethiopia, Solomonic Dynasty.

Small shrine, or zushi, in a folkish style. In a simple, square case sits Buddha Shakyamuni with a round object in his hands, possibly a jewel or an alms bowl, carved in soap stone. Shaka sits on a low pedestal. On the inside of the left door a paper label with the inscription … no shaka sonzo (Figure of the … Buddha). Height case 7 inches; height figure 3 ¼ inches. 19th Century Chinese Blue and White Porcelain underglaze Blue Urn with Cover, 17 1/2", 10" wide-widest part, 5 1/2" diameter-top rim, sharp brilliant nice underglaze Blue decoration of double Happiness character among scrolling vine and Peony floral decoration, marked on the bottom but this urn or jar was made during early 1800's to mid 1800's, representing good quality of Blue and White Porcelain Product. Small shrine with the sculpture of Kishimojin, the hands folded in prayer. Plain wood with nice patina, the pupils painted black. On the back inscription in black ink. On the right door of the case inscription in black ink: Angyo Kishimosonjin, the name of the temple and the donor. The inscription on the back of the sculpture is partly the same, indicating that sculpture and case came together. Japan, early 19th century.

Japanese large Imari Porcelain Punch Bowl, 4 1/2" high, 12" diameter-top, early 1920, with typical Imari colors of red, green and orange overglaze enamel on top of the underglaze blue, and highlighted in gold. Very delightful Japanese garden scene just outside the door or window in divided cartouches. There are some scratch marks on the bottom inside the bowl, no cracks, no restoration, no damage.

Asian low table. Mother of pearl inlay on maroon and black laquer, brass bound edges. Very minor restauration to chipped legs. 475 mm square top, 80mm high. Undated, estimated to be late 19th century or earlier. Can be viewed in central London and collected. Buyer arranges own transport from central London.

This is an extraordinarily rare unique turtle shell maskette. It is 2 5/8" X 2 1/2". It was found in Southern Illinois. It dates to the Mississippian Period, 1000AD. It has a hairline reminiscent of the Southeastern Shell Masks. I know of only one other example which is pictured in Lar Hothem's 'Antler, Bone & Shell Artifacts', page 309. It has beautiful patina and is a no-brainer for authenticity. It is solid and not fragile. Could be used for modern wear...
