A pair of antique Japanese Baku corbels hand caraved from solid Keyaki wood. Rare flaming mane design adds a dragon-like fear to wore off evil spirits. Used under the eaves of Japanese temples and shrines, they devour dreams and nightmares as they protect against evil. An 18th Century Japanese porcelain scalloped serving bowl, with lid, decorated with the Imari colors of red, blue, white, cream, and gold. The tureen measures about 9 1/4" long x 6 1/2" wide x 7" tall. The Shippo design family crest has been applied in gold on the blue panels. The finial is modeled as a sixteen pedal chrysanthemum blossom. The condition is excellent, with some wear to gold highlights. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

Antique Japanese zushi (traveler's shrine) with double panel doors which open to reveal a standing figure of Jizo Bosatsu (O-Jizo-Sama). Jizo is the protector of travelers and firefighters as well as the guardian of the souls of all children. He stands on a lotus base with a Buddhist ring staff (shakujo) in his right hand and a jewel in his left. The doors of the shrine are painted with tennin, celestial beings on either side. They represent two out of the Three Friends of Winter (pine, bamboo and plum) celebrated for the fact that they do not wither as the cold days deepen into the winter season unlike many other plants. Wonderful design, in great condition. Height 2.73 inches.

A small Imari porcelain teapot of rectangular form with an arch-shaped handle ending in a blossom. Beautifully decorated with a hare and a dragon in a cartouche between flowery motifs in iron red, green, yellow and gold, the top with auspicious longevity characters in underglaze blue. A Kannon Bosatsu wooden statue from the early Meiji Period (19th century) with rests of its original paint.

It is a unique peace of buddhist art, as it bears on its back a writing with black ink from a Samurai. The charakters mean Saikoku Sanjusansho (The Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage), made by 'Yasukuni Joza' in the status of Bushi (Samurai) in Bungo area, Oita Prefecture.
