Up for sale is our oldest Japanese Tokkuri (Sake bottle). It dates from the Momoyama Period with an age of 400 years and has a very tasteful glaze with vivid colours. Close to the bottom there is a kiln mark (refer to picture no. 6)

A fabulous Japanese cloisonne vase purchased from the 1893 Chicago Exhibition. Inside the vase is an old decaying leaflet given to the buyers by the exhibitors. On a fragment one of the massive vases displayed by Suzuki can be seen on this paper (See image). There is more to this faded image on the reverse buy it is hard to see. This bowl is divided into eight petal-form lobes, with a rim painted with alternating leaves and geometric designs in underglaze cobalt blue of medium to dark tones. This is Tsutsugaki used in the Tohoku district. This was dyed with an indigo plant.
As for it, dark blue and light blue contrast are fair. The cotton spun by hand has good texture. The local custom, the way of thinking affect the motif of Tsutsugaki. It is a very rare thing to adjust the hanging scroll of the letter to a theme happy. It is simple and sturdy, and this area assumes rusticity economy the history. This is a very attractive Japanese Imari bowl. For an old Imari piece it is in excellent condition. It is also a very heavy piece potted. The bowl measures 8 1/2 inches across and 4 inches tall.
A rather curious dish of moulded Kraak form decorated with a partially obscured Chinese four toed Dragon painted in underglaze cobalt blue with gilt outlined enamelled auspicious clouds framed by a band of stylised Chrysanthemum demi-florets. The reverse decorated with further stylised clouds and a six character mark for the Emperor Yongzheng.
An identical dish appears in the Shibata collection dated circa 1750-80, although I think the dish may well be more or less contemporary with the reign ...
