Antique Japanese blue and white studio ware porcelain container. Made with 6 sides and a flared base. The sides are decorated with a scene of misty mountains and a small village. Small figures in a boat pole along a river which runs under a bridge and weeping willows...

Two prints placed under glass, representing two young women, one feeding her little pet, a rat and the other practicing Ikebana, composing a bouquet of irises which will be presented in the vase placed next to her. The hairstyle is typical of women drawn by Suzuki Harunobu, but also by other artists of this period. As it would seem that the Chinese characters simply describe the scenes represented and not the name of the artist, only specialists will be able to know who it is...

Late Meiji (1890s to 1912) Japanese temple boxwood seal of square section. Excellent quality crisp carving in seal script, old red seal paste in the grooves. Metal stud on the side indicates the position of the top of the imprint. Beautiful patina on the surface of wood. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1 (photo is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). Height 2.4 inches, base 0.93 inches square.

An unusual early Meiji period medicine 2-tiered Kusuri chest. Made from 100% quarter sawn kiri (Paulownia) wood, and small hand forged iron pull hardware. Original warm red tones with brown undertones finish give the small chest a great sensibility. Total of 13 individual drawers, used to store and keep natural remedies, herbs and tonics.

A large Japanese transom temple carving framed in black lacquer with gold leaf edging. Temple ranma is masterful made up of a single slab of Keyeki (zelkova) hardwood, carefully carved to reveal there central blossoming lotus flowers along scrolling vines. Original finish showing off natural patina consistent with age. Few loses that have been sorted and stabilized with old repairs done at a high level. Ready to be mounted and installed...

A wonderful example of an original Japanese Armored Safe chest. Constructed of hand selected and quartered sawn keyaki (zalkova hardwood) and hand forged iron hardware / fittings. Thick hinged door opens to reveal 4 individual drawers with secret compartment located under the largest (bottom) drawer. Internal drawers are made of original light kiri (paulownia) wood.

Very rare Raku Kichizaemon IV Ichinyu (1640-1696) black Raku tea bowl.
Comes with an old signed box.

Having become Raku master at the age of 16, Ichinyu was significantly influenced by his father Donyu who died at 58. In general his works are powerful, large in scale but with thin surfaces and bold incisions made with spatula.

In later years he appeared to revert to the style of Chojiro, making compact tea bowls with smaller dimensions and few spatula marks...

A pair of wood and lacquered Niō, guardians of Buddhist temples, finely carved in polychromy with the muscles in evidence and the veins in relief. The Niō (Jp. = benevolent kings) are a pair of protectors – Agyō and Ungyō – who stand guard outside the gate of Japanese Buddhist temples, one on either side of the entrance...

This is an Edo period Japanese book reprinted in the Taisho period (1920).It depicts everyday life in Japan during the Edo period. There is some rubbing on the cover, but there are no noticeable stains or damage. Size:length:19㎝　/　Width:13.5cm / 10 pages

This is a tsutsugaki silk children's kimono from the Edo period. It is a simple and auspicious design of treasure. No stains. There is one small 1mm hole on the back, but it is not noticeable. This is a hitoe kimono with no lining. size:: Length :110cm / 43.3" Cuff to cuff, across the back: 108cm / 42.5"

This is a wonderful Meiji Era Satsuma tray from Seikozan. The detail is outstanding but the condition is even better. The condition of this piece is pristine and like new or the day it left the workshop. In fact, this piece is the finest preserved example of Meiji era Satsuma we have ever had. Ironically, we found a small factory repair to one of the corners. We ran tests and it is absolutely a gold covered Seikozan factory repair (See last image).

This is a wonderful slender pear shaped bronze vase from the Meiji era (1868-1912. It is highly detailed and decorated with three raised relief elephants. One of the images was deliberately overexposed to show off the fine detail. It has the original patina and is in excellent condition. Stands 12 3/4 inches tall and is signed underneath by Genryusai Seiya. Buyers should be careful because there are poor copies or fakes of this elephant vase showing up in auctions.

This is a Japanese antique Boro noragi Farmer's jacket of natural indigo dye thick katazome hemp.Fading of indigo dye is charming. Size:Length:79cm / 31.1inch Cuff to cuff, across the back: 135cm / 53.1inch

Antique Japanese suzuribako (calligraphy writing box) for a merchant. Made of keyaki (elm) wood burl with iron hardware. Two drawers: one for writing implements and one drawer with a lock for keeping money, seals, and important documents safe. A top compartment with a hinged lid would have kept an ink stone.

Antique Japanese small, round, lidded box. Made with metal body covered with lacquer and decorated with a gold lacquer scene of a bridge and a weeping willow tree. Intricate raised machi-e details of waves and willow leaves. Delicate nashiji on the ground around the tree.

Antique Japanese okimono carving of a little skeleton on top of a larger skull. Made of boxwood with a beautiful patina. Intricately carved to show every bone of the small skeleton and the teeth of the skull. The artist's humor is displayed in both style and subject matter.
