Late Meiji to early Taisho (1890s to 1920) lacquered wood netsuke representing a Gigaku theater mask of Baramon - a brahmin of the priestly Indian caste. Rather rare mask, superb quality wonderfully expressive face, lighter wood (probably ichii - Japanese yew wood), excellent use of silvery lacquer. Height 2 1/8 inches.

Beautiful subtle piece, superb quality carving, rich warm patina, in excellent condition. Wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Size 6 1/4 x 1 1/2 inches.

the woman of many Chinese Ethnic Minority groups did not cut their hair. It was often worn on the top of the head in a bun,and sometimes intertwined with lengths of an ancestors hair for added protection from evil spirits.
The hair was often (especially for festivals)
decorated with added silver ornaments and/or hairpins.
This superb helmet bowl is comprised of 64 iron plates that are slightly embossed between the suji, double front plates, and a washer underneath the top front riveted inside. The bowl has been given a very dark russet finish and fitted with a simple iron visor. The meadate is a forged iron hornet with gilt brass wings. Well captured essence of the objects, beautifully realistic desiccated texture of the fish. Cursively signed on the bottom - possibly reads KAWAYUKI. Excellent sense of volume, wonderful patina. Length 2.3 inches.

Chinese Green Jadeite Jade Pendant, carved lotus flower shape with incised line of pedals, 1 5/8" wide 1 1/4" high, 1/4" thick, with natural infusions. Holes indicated that this piece was sewn onto the clothes, or attach to the larger piece of jewel items. The condition is good.

Antique Tibetan Gau, or portable shrine, in a metal repousse container with imagery of lotuses and various figures, within is a deity behind a small glass window. Directly below the deity is the face of Kirtimukha, a common image in Southeast Asian temples. The box is secured within a pouch woven of cotton and silk, with a long strap and small stone clasps. 19th century.
