Very little distorted cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl with a rounded brim, made of little reddish, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part and through the finger marks (rokuro-me) covered with an ash glaze inside and outside. The little iron oxide in the clay turned the glaze to light brown.

On two opposite sides, decoration has been applied under the glaze in iron oxide with a little white engobe...

Fukurokuju is the god of wisdom and longevity, and is easily recognized by characteristics such as his dramatic, elongated forward, his root wood cane, and the scroll he holds. He wears a beautiful, flowing robe with flying cranes accented by gilt outlines. The cranes are an attribute to Fukurokuju as they, too, are a symbol of longevity.

A small, charming Korean single section cabinet. Three drawers with persimmon panels line the top of the cabinet, with a set of double doors below, on decorative iron hinges incised with sand dollars, and a central filigree edged lock. Within are two small drawers and a large open compartment. The very bottom of the piece has a front drop down lid with roomy open storage inside. The edges of the piece feature iron braces with floral motif studs.

This is an extremely rare Paleo Folsom made from a dark gray, translucent flint. It is 1 11/16" by 13/16". Both faces are fluted to the tip. The basal edge is concave and the haft is ground most of the way up the blade edges. It has classic Folsom edge work. Nice natural patina with good deposits and authentic accumulations noted.
