Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Covered Jar

This attractively-shaped porcelain jar was made during the Wanli reign (1573 - 1620) of the Ming Dynasty. Both jar and cover are decorated in underglaze blue with scrolling floral and lotus patterns, and coated in a silky smooth glaze. The inner surface of the jar is also glazed whereas the underside of the cover and the recessed flat base of the jar remain unglazed revealing the pale porcelain body.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Octagonal Porcelain Box

This blue & white porcelain box, complete with its original cover, of octagonal form was made during the Wanli reign (1573 - 1620) of the Ming Dynasty. Each facet of both the box and cover are decorated with a bird, flower, precious object or auspicious symbol. Both inner and outer surfaces are coated in a finely-crackled glaze.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Bowl (mark)

This attractive and very interesting blue and white porcelain bowl was made in the 16th century. It is decorated in underglaze blue of very good colour. The centre is decorated with a male figure standing next to a deer. The decoration to the outer wall is quite elaborate and includes a varied landscape, two male figures and one female figure. To the base is a mark (not translated).

This blue and white porcelain bowl was made in the 16th century. It is decorated in underglaze blue of good colour, the design featuring birds perched upon blossoming branches. To the base is a seal mark (not translated).

Diameter 12 cm. It is in good condition. There is minor surface wear, some "fritting" of the glaze at the rim edge and a kiln scar at the top of the outer wall...

This attractive blue & white porcelain bowl was made during the latter part of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). The underglaze blue decoration around the outer wall depicts a varied landscape that includes a bird (stork) in flight, a bird sitting in a tree in blossom and a winged insect. The inside of the bowl is decorated with a blossoming flower.

This blue & white porcelain bowl was made during the latter part of the Ming Dynasty (!368 - 1644). The underglaze blue decoration around the outer wall features a deer walking in a landscape. The inside of the bowl is decorated with a blossoming flower. The deer represents longevity as it is the only animal able to find the sacred fungus of long life and immortality.

This unusually large porcelain dish, or bowl, was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), most likely at one of the kilns in Fujian province where ceramics were made for export around south-east Asia. The inner surface is decorated with incised swirling patterns and it has been coated in a pale greenish qingbai type glaze. A pair of sometsuke underglaze blue san kaku-gata choku, three sided cups, decorated with contrasting patterns of a pair of "Dutch" figures set against a diaper brocade ground, a scene of Chinese boys, karako, one playing with a standard, the other holding a double gourd form tokkuri, and an auspicious kara hana (literally Tang flower) inset within an arabesque of kara-kusa (Tang grasses) painted in kakiwake style. This form of cup is rare and apparently only occurs with this pattern...
