Fine original watercolor painted by British Orientalist Augustus Lamplough, R.W.S. (1877-1930) depicting the wonderful temple complex of PHILAE on the Nile, Egypt. Faint rays of the rising sun appear from the rosy dawn behind the large rock on the right. On the bank of the Nile several people and papyrus boats can be seen. Signed on the lower left corner. On the right corner indistinctly inscribed "figures and boats...on foreground of...". Condition very good. Unframed, size 38 cm. x 49 cm...
From our European Collection, a wonderful signed and dated (1860) oil on canvas entitled "The Offering" by British genre painting master John Bagnold Burgess (1830-1897). Burgess was a well -accomplished painter of the mid-late 19th century, regarded as highly in his own time, as he is nowadays. He was nominated to membership of the Royal Academy in 1889, where he had over 70 paintings displayed from about 1850 all the way through to his death in 1897...

This is a fine pastel of a pair of dogs---Labradors possibly---(I welcome input from dog lovers)--one named at bottom "Lozi", the other, "Pamuzi", the drawing signed at lower left with what appears as "Janaa Olsen" or "Janaa Owen" or similar, and dated there 1988. It appears to be a portrait commissioned by an owner who was obviously very attached to these particular canines, who appear at this time to have been in the prime of their lives...
A circa 1970 painting of a plaza in Paris, 22 1/2" by 26" in silver and black framing, signed at lower left with what appears as "Lietti". The work is in the style of many of the Montmartre tourist painters of the time, but is unusual in that it is painted in grays, blacks, white, and a grayish tan at far right. This Minimalist palette would lend it to being room-friendly in your Mid Century setting...
Large oil on canvas, 30" by 40", unframed, signed at lower left by the artist and dated there "30", the subject a snowy, rugged mountain range with autumnal colors and evergreens, a small lake in the middle ground. The artist, RICHARD DEY DE RIBCOWSKY (1880-1936) was a prolific painter, and a well traveled one, at that. For his time he was truly an adventurous traveler. Born in Bulgaria, he was in Paris by age 13, and Florence and St. Petersburg after that...
Oil on canvasboard circa 1960 painting of a variety of flowers in a ceramic yellow vase artistically placed on a textile with another ceramic vessel nearby, signed at lower left "Betty Way". The work, which measures 24" by 18", also bears a label on the reverse with the artist's name and address in Springfield, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. To date I have not located a known artist by this name. A Betty Way of Harrisburg, PA was a newspaper circulation manager...
Francis Hopkinson Smith, 1838-1915, was born in Baltimore Maryland the descendent of a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the first president of the Pennsylvania Academy of fine arts. He had a successful career as a naval engineer, working on such projects as the Statue of Liberty and the race rock lighthouse off Block Island. By the 1880s Smith gave up engineering to pursue art in writing among other pursuits...

Beautiful Autumn Landscape with maple leaves. Painted with ink and pigments on paper. Signed Tetsuzan and sealed.
Some light marks are present on the painting itself, otherwise the painting is in very good antique/vintage condition. Some insignificant light marks are present on the scroll mounting, otherwise the piece is diplayed well and in very good condition...

This is a fine original hand colored etching by British artist Elyse Lord. The title is: Fantasy in Blue, created and printed circa 1925. This image is pencil signed and numbered as 39/75. The image measures 13 3/4X10 1/4 inches. Printed on a thin Japan type sheet.
Watercolor painting of a harbor scene in New England, 12 3/4" by 18 3/4" inside the mat, 20 1/4" by 26 1/4" in silvery metal framing, signed at lower left in red "J. Stephenson" and dated there '77. This is likely a scene of Maine or Massachusetts, judging from the lobster traps at left on the dock. The artist does not seem to be listed but I have seen other similar works by this hand while traveling in New England...
Watercolor painting of a sunny meadow by the sea, vegetation partially obscuring a distant view to a coastline, 9 1/8" by 13 1/4" (16 1/2" by 20" in wood strip frame), signed at lower right by American artist HARRIET WINSLOW HAYDEN (1840-1926)--some give date of death as 1906. Hayden worked in both Massachusetts, and, later, in Colorado, where she became an active member of Denver-area art groups...
Photographic print, 24" by 18" protected in a plastic poster box, issued by the Musee D'art Moderne in Paris for a 1963 exhibition of the works of noted French 20th century painter GEORGES MATHIEU (1921-2012), today considered a major artist, the large oils of whom regularly command over $100,000 at auctions in the US and Europe. This poster is somewhat condition compromised; there is some light buckling from moisture, with some light moisture related staining on the reverse (which does NOT sh...
Oil on masonite panel, 13 " by 22 " (16" by 25" in black frame with gold inner), the subject a female mallard duck among brown grasses suggestive of autumn. The artist signed his name at lower left. S. SCOTT ZUCKERMAN (1951-) was born in Connecticut and lives there still, living a life close to nature and therefore an excellent observer of it. He is widely known for his paintings of wildlife, including fish, birds, and large mammals like moose. Zuckerman attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn....
Large charcoal on paper drawing of a head, 23" by 19" (35 1/2" by 29 1/2" in oversized framing), signed at lower right "W. NASH" in all capital letters. This appears to be the head of a woman, perhaps Orientalist subject matter. I speculated that this might be a work by the noted Santa Fe, New Mexico modernist artist Willard Nash (1898-1943), but he did not sign like this, so far as I can determine, and the subject matter would be unusual for him. Nash did work in Pasadena in the developing ...
