A naïve Americana print, "Bears Bears Bears", numbered 1348/1375, signed at lower right by noted highly collected American 20th century folk art artist JANE WOOSTER SCOTT (1920-). Jane Wooster Scott grew up in eastern Pennsylvania and was exposed as a youngster to the vivid Americana atmosphere that remained in the region into the 1940's. Watercolor on heavy watercolor paper, unsigned, the subject the sea coast, painted in an impressionist style by an American artist. The work was found in Laguna Beach, California but I cannot say that this is a Southern California work---although I wonder if this might well be Laguna's "Bird Rock", as I think I've seen other works depicting that feature, and the two birds above this might be symbolic. Unframed, the sheet measures 16" by 22"...

An enhanced, dramatic color Cibachrome print photograph, hand titled "Cairo Cityscape Egypt 1979", also hand signed in the same silvery ink by the photographer, LYDIA CLARKE HESTON and numbered at lower center mat 10 of 20 examples. HESTON (1923-2018) was for 64 years the wife of the famous American actor, but was an independent woman who carved her own path despite being in the shadow of one of America's most famous faces of the 20th century...

This is a most unusual and appealing pop art painting (unframed, 27" by 35") by a mid-coast California artist, Tom Shultz (1943-2017). Works by the artist, who passed away in his mid seventies, have been exhibited at a number of galleries, particularly in the Paso Robles area of central California. The piece is entirely hand painted (not silkscreened, which I at first thought a possibility) on a spongy, soft pulpboard, which the artist has also painted on the reverse (an abstract)...

A watercolor with white gouache of a barn and another structure on an overcast, gray, snowy day, an old buckboard wagon at right center, the work signed below the mat GENE R DREW. I do not see a listing for the artist, who likely painted this around the year 1970 judging from the framing and non-glare type glass (which will be discarded before shipping). The piece, on Crescent art board, measures 18 3/4" by 25" inside the mat, and 25" by 31" in worn dark oak framing...

An unusual double sided miniature by Frederick Buck. One side is painted using watercolors on ivory, and shows a young man with an upswept hair style, dressed in the usual black coat and white stock of the period. The reverse of the case shows an older man in profile, also in a black coat and white stock, but limned in watercolor on card. The paintings were probably done at somewhat different times, and then framed together.

The condition of the full face painting is excellent, with no issues...

Orlando Norie (1832–1901), artist of military subjects, perhaps the most prolific painter of the British army in the 19th century along with Richard Simkin. It has been estimated that Norie alone painted well over 5,000 pictures. Although his family were of Scottish descent, they had moved to the continent, and Orlando was born in Bruges, Belgium on 15 January 1832...

Imperial folio lithograph with hand coloring after John W. Audubon of a pair of Little Nimble Weasels in winter coats printed by J.T. Bowen 1848. This print was part of the three volume folio printed between 1845 and 1848 of the Viviparous Quadruped of North America. The sheet is approximately 22 x 28 inches (56 x 71 cm), the mat opening 18 ½ x 24 ½ inches (47 x 62 cm) and the oak frame 24 ¾ x 31 ½ inches (61 x 80 cm)...

For years, I have seen these gouache paintings of cockatoos, in the Art Deco style, circulating around Southern California, but I didn't know the identity of the artist, as there seemed to be no listing. Now, with his death in 2012, there is some information online. This drawing is 23" by 17" (28 1/2" by 22 1/2" framed), signed at lower left center in the image, by former child actor-turned artist BILLY SEAY (1922-2012). He was one of the biographers of Sascha Brastoff...
