Max Kassler, American 1905–1992 was an abstract Artist known for some of the most unusual experimental work based on the human figure He was an early student of the Picasso school of painting. This work culminated his idea of abstraction in space. This is part of the collection we have at the gallery. Automatic drawing was pioneered by the English artist Austin Osman Spare who wrote a chapter, Automatic Drawing as a Means to Art, in his book, The Book of Pleasure (1913

This lovely sculpture is 8 cm. high (3 1/4") and the expressive face is delicately sculptured and is framed by his wavy coiffure held in place by a broad headband. Contrasty, dramatic charcoal drawing of a figure who appears to be civil rights icon Martin Luther King, 23 1/2" by 17 3/4" inside the mat, 31" by 25" simply framed in wood behind thin Plexi, signed at lower left and dated there 1987 by American artist JESSICA ROCKWELL. Rockwell, a relative of Norman Rockwell, is a talented portraitist currently working out of Clearwater, Florida. The artist lived at one time in Southern California and that is likely why this rather early work was found here...

Oil on canvas painting of a traditional German house or cottage in a forested landscape, 20" by 28" on the stretchers, 23" by 31" as framed, signed at lower right by artist "M. Lichtmann" and dated there 1920. The painting is beautifully executed, though there is very little information on the artist. There is stable craquelure, and a slight drip of foreign matter at center left, though the painting can be placed on the wall as-is.

A well-executed watercolor of a tightly grouped bouquet of flowers. This may be a theorem made with stencils, though this painting looks as if it was done freehand. Theorems were more often stenciled on velvet. The style is of the mid-19th century. It could be either American or English. The frame is a good one of that period. The painting was almost certainly in an oval frame originally and the slight shadow around it is evidence of that frame...

Britain's "General Strike" was the theme of Brisco's dramatic image of "The Orator". The strike, mainly by coal-miners upset with their goverments' reduction in wages and worsening conditions, also included dockers, printers, power station workers and transport workers, thus Brisco's interest in the subject.

Eye-catching patinated bronze swan statue on a black marble base.. This curvilinear design is reminiscent of the Art Deco period. The edges of the marble base are beveled and the corners are rounded; it all feels very smooth. Unsigned, there was green felt on the bottom that was removed, but enough remains that it will protect a wood surface from scratching. In excellent condition, it measures 16.12ʺ long × 4.12ʺ deep × 11.75ʺ high.
