Francois Gall, Hungarian/French, 1912-1987 "Le Petit Dejeuner" is a beautiful oil on canvas signed F. Gall (lower right) 20 x 17 1/2 inches, good condition, circa 1940-50. It is Gall at his very best and was in the private collection of Frederic Stern of the Gering Galleries on Wilshire Blvd, Beverly hills, CA.

The body is composed of two phoenixes, the heads of the birds naturally forming the handles. The stone is very hard, green speckled with translucent white. The cover is also formed of 2 birds, it is not pierced so it is possible that it is not a censer, although it can be used without a cover. It is placed on a finely carved hardwood base. There are some numbers stamped inside, probably so as not to mix up the bases. China 20th century around the 70s. Good condition...

Moses SOYER 1899-1974 wass a Russian born artist part of the Soyer family of artist that Immigrated to America in the early 20th century. He worked for the WPA in the 1930s under the Roosevelt administration and was featured in many exhibitions and documentaries. This work captures the gesture of surprise and is an oil on canvas measuring 24 x 20”, frame size 32 x 28”

Oil on canvas painting of a classic red barn in Alaska's Matanuska Valley near Anchorage, signed at lower left by artist Ted Goldstone and dated 3/69 and titled on stretcher. The Matanuska Valley is known as Alaska's prime agricultural area. The long hours of daylight in summer have produced record cabbages, among other produce. The high surrounding mountains remind one that one is in Alaska and not the Midwest. The art measures 16" by 12".

Alfred Hair (American, 1941-1970) was an early Florida Highwaymen painter. This large painting depicts two leaning palm trees just above a beach with two high tide lines of debris, curling waves and seagulls all under a sunny but partially cloudy sky. Signed, “A. Hair” lower left. The painting is 24 ¼ x 36 ¼ inches. The apparently original frame is 29 ½ x 41 ½ inches. Painted on panel (Upson board).

This is a very early work by mr Levier, oil on canvas in a beautiful contemporary linen lined frame measuring 14.5” x 30” Bio: Charles Levier (1920-2003) was born in Corsica to a French father and an American mother. Original etching on BFK Rives paper, "Issachar", from the Twelve Tribes of Israel series, 1973, signed by the artist SALVADOR DALI (1904-1989) at lower right margin and numbered 21/195 at lower left. The work is generally clean and comes with quality gold leaf framing, but no glass. There is slight oxidation within the mat opening. Print is taped at top edge only. Measurements are 22 1/2" by 15 1/2" inside the mat; sheet measures 25 1/2" by 19 3/4"; and finally, 32" by 25" framed.

The strokes in this print are "U", no meaning. This is an early print using Hiragana. It is two brush strokes piercing the space, leaving a trace of itself before coming to the bottom of the paper. It has but one splash across the top and a red tear along the side and then: Whoosh it goes as in the red image at the bottom. There is one sun at the outer edge of the stroke and two moons inside the curving stroke. Not so simple after all.

Poem 68-40—strongly related to Poem 69-13 which is posted below on this site—is an old embossed print. Created in 1968, a year before its “cousin,” it is similarly in excellent condition. Poem 68-40 measures 11 3/8in W x 15in H and is number 29 of an edition of 72.

Poem 70-73 Taiwa (Level or peace), 31/106, 17.5”x 24.5”. Haku Maki produced this Big Green print in 1970. His Big prints-—large for him-—appeared mainly in the period 1968-75. This print, the only horizontal one of all his Big prints, depicts the kanji for Level, Peace and the like. I believe it has other meanings. When I first saw this image many years ago but had not seen the bottom margin clearly, I thought it was a stylized rendition of Woman, a very frequent Maki subject....
