Republic period, circa 1950, carved jade miniature of a sage pinching it's ear lobe. The jade stone is shaped like a pebble. There are two medallions on the top of the shoulders of the stone. It measures 1.5" by 1.5" by .6".

Japanese woodblock print entitled "Moonlit Night at Miyajima" by the artist Kawase Hasui. The Miyajima Torii Gate sands in the still water. A row of stone lanterns shine their light from the water's edge. Tall pines bend over the quiet beach. From across the lake, more lights can be seen. With black 6mm seal. Balinese antique pair of Dwarapala temple guardians. Carved of stone, these figures once guarded a temple entrance, a warning to humans and negative energies not to pass. Their ferocious appearance is a warning that only those with good intentions will be ushered through and guided to ascend a higher path.

This is a vintage Japanese pottery tea bowl of Hagi ware, which was made by the great potter, the 14th Shinbei Sakakura (1917-1975) about 60 years ago. The glaze has a variaton of light red and grayish colors, intermitted by golden lines of the kintsugi.

He was one of the greatest potters of Hagi ware, who was identified as an important human cultural treasure of Yamaguchi prefecutre, Japan in 1972.

The seal of the potter is stamped on the bottom...

A very finely carved Huang Yang ("Boxwood") figure group depicting Lu Xing, one of the three Daoist Star Gods. On the back is carved the seal mark of Jing Fu who was active in China during the Republic period (1912-1949) and who was the first student of the famous Huang Yang wood carver Zhu Zichang...

This mid-20th century carved wood incense holder is 12” high and 2” in diameter. There are four dragons carved in openwork relief coiled around the cylindrical body of the incense holder. It is in good condition.

The natural ash Hagi glaze gives this piece a mellow yet robust feel. The foot of the bowl is unglazed in places showing traces of ferrous-rich clay in the form of an orangish hue. The sides of the bowl show pale ash, ivory, and faint hints of lavender. Overall a classic and attractive example of an expertly crafted Hagi tea bowl.

The creator of this work, Korai-zaemon Saka XI was born in Yamaguchi prefecture in 1912...

A group of 3 pieces early 20th Century Chinese enamel silver bangles. Excellent condition.Marked Silver.D: 5.6cm.

Pair of cylinder cases, thinly potted with narrow necks and feet painted in mirror image with birds perched among flowering prunus plants. Accented red hand drawn borders at the rims and base of each vase with a poem on the opposite side.

On the base of each is a red overglaze seal of Liu Yucen.

Condition: On one of the vases, there is the remnants of a Jianding export seal. Next to this seal is a glaze crack, most likely from trying to remove the seal...

Japanese woven suiban. This low, shallow container is used for ikebana flower arranging. Rectangular in form, this suiban is raised on low feet. A grain or leaf-like design is woven into all sides and the corners have intricate knot work. An oval shaped metal container sits perfectly inside for holding water.

This is a very colorful Japanese Plique-a-Jour cloisonne vase. The colors used are a little different than most and contrast beautifully.(See images) Condition is very good. But when held up to bright light a line can be seen. It does not show in normal lighting. The vase is even a little different size. It stands 3 5/8 inches tall.

This shoulder bag was made and used by the Hmoung women of northern Thailand. It would carry all the traditional items which would have been commonly found in a woman's purse. The bag fabric was hand loomed from the indigenous plants and then embroidered using traditional cross-stitched with geometric patterns. Wonderful kneeling female Agere Ifa Figure from the Yoruba People made of wood and pigment, carrying a bowl. The figure has good age and shows much handling.

Such figures could well have been used in the divination process among the Yoruba called Ifa. Cowry shells, cola nuts, may have been kept in the bowl being carried by the woman...

Full 6 panel Japanese screen painting of a sweeping landscape with mountains, low hills and a lake with Mt Fuji rising in the background. Around the edges of the lake are clustered tiny houses. Painted in light mineral colors and ink on paper with gold flecks.

Taisho Period (early 20th century)

Dimensions: 68 1/2" high x 142 1/2" long

This large carved ivory vessel with handle is a mid 20th century product. It has a dragon shaped handle and nine dragons, clouds and ocean wave motif covering its body. It is 13 ½” high, 10 1/8” wide from the widest part and 4 ½” thick from the middle part. There are two repaired crack lines along the side of the vessel. Because the crack lines are on the side, they are not obvious. There is a honorific Qian Long mark on the bottom.

Japanese 4-panel screen painting depicting a scene of ducks swimming along the edge of a pond or stream. Tall grasses and rocks rise from the water. Painted in mineral colors on gold ground.
