This an excellent hand-carved contemporary netsuke of a standing Hotei carrying his bag over his right shoulder. In his left hand he holds a Ruyi Scepter. Signed Shodo on a rectangular reserve on the bottom of the netsuke. SHODO, the Go name of Hiroshi Asaoka, born in Tokyo in the year 1923 was a master of intricate detailed carvings, and quiet, serene designs, who studied under Shomin. Japanese sosaku hanga woodblock print titled in pencil at the lower margin "Haniwa (7)" by Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997). Signed in white ink and with the artist's red seal at the lower right corner on the back. Circa 1950s. Paper size: 14 3/4" x 9 3/8” (image size: 11 1/8" x 5 7/8”). Very good overall condition. Japanese Mid 20th Century print of "White Heron in the Rain" by IDE GAKUSUI (1899-1982). Signed and stamped by artist in lower right hand corner. Also, title and date in lower right hand border. Printed in Showa 25, or 1950. The feathers of the heron are embossed. Fine color and impression. This is the first printing of this famous print. A posthumous edition was printed in HEISEI period. The paper measures 10 1/4" wide by 15 3/8" tall. The print measures 9" wide by 14 3/8" tall.

Stainless steel paper knife with the handle made of a large natural piece of polished lump of amber from the west coast of Denmark. Best Deep Yellow / Honey natural colour! Amber Lump size: L 8,5 x 6 cm. Total Length 21 cm. Weight: 99 gr. Great patina from age and use. Old piece of amber probably found in the fist part of the 20th century and than mounted as paper knife.

Pair of Chinese Kesi Woven Silk Panel of Immortals with Fabric Brocade Border

Each panel is 46.6 inches (118.5 cm) long by 38 inches (96.5 cm) wide. The kesi is 21.2 inches (54 cm) long by 18.1 inches (46 cm) wide.

They are in good condition with no repairs or discoloration, except foxing, small stains, and a minor tear (as seen in the photos).

This is a very attractive large Chinese wood box with one large and three small shishi(lion-dog) on the porcelain. Old Chinese porcelain was used for this box. It has more of an antique look than in the pictures here. Actual measurements are 8 inches wide x 10 1/4 inches long and 6 inches high.

Netsuke carved by Ryoshu (born in 1912) - one of the best Japanese netsuke carvers of the 20th century. Netsuke represents a doll of Daruma (founder of Zen Buddhism) enveloped in monastic robe, and his eyes can pop in and out. Perfectly captured facial expression, facial hair and mandarin duck decoration on his robe beautifully incised and etched with ink. It appears that the artist etched a different design on every piece of this model of his - see the other Darumas by Ryoshu on my site...
