This hanging scroll of Yang Yuhuan, a Tang Dynasty Royal Consort, as attributed to Fu Baoshi (1904-1965), is both rare and skilfully executed. Its painting subject is based upon the of-quoted love story between Li Longji, the Tang Emperor Xuanzong, and his royal consort and soul-mate, Yang Yuhuan. This kasuri kimono appears to be hand woven (to my eyes) and another Tsukurioki kimono in new condition. Tsukuri-oki means that it has been left unused after it was made into a kimono. This was caused by the drastic changes in their clothing especially after the World War II. DESCRIPTION: An appealing green nephrite disk or bi, carved with two chilong dragons whose heads and bodies ring the edges with their limbs draping down on either side. From a mid-west collection, the design, color and form are quite pleasing and could be used as a toggle or an eye-catching pendant when incorporated into a necklace.
