The slightly tapering form is sturdily potted and is enameled in grisaille with a bird perched on a wisteria branch amid roses toward the base. This style of screen emerged during the Ming dynasty in China and has been favored in Europe for centuries. Each element of detail has been masterfully rendered. This figure of a seated scholar is glazed turquoise with amber colored highlights. The back is mostly unglazed except for the original white slip coating, now darkened with age. A fine Chinese snuff bottle made from Carnelian, well hollowed. One side carved in relief with a bird on a rock beneath a bat, the backside engraved with a ruyi scepter. The stopper is made from white jadeit with a green spot and a bone spoon. Condition: the stopper eventually not original, traces of usage. Dimension: c. 6.2 cm high.

A charming porcelain statue was rarely found from an old collection.
In amusing subject of Mother and Child, this statue was put in the famous Chinese antique magazine Art and Collection - May edition, to celebrate the international Mother's Day of May.
It was well preserved without any crack-lines and was free from any restorations.
Of course, due to long time of burial, some abrasions were caused to the surface (see details).

This tubular shaped holder is partially hollowed on one end in order to receive a peacock feather decoration. The jade is a white tone with white mottling and a very slight hint of green when held to the light. It has a soft polish and even wear from use. Good condition.

A rare finely carved cylindrical bamboo incense box depicting Scholars amongst rocks and pine trees in a mountain landscape. This item was made in China in the late Qing period - the characters carved into the top read "Qing Guangxu Nian Zhi" which translates as "Made in the Guangxu reign Qing dynasty" (1875-1908). A fine and rare 19th century Japanese cloisonne bi-fold table screen in the Kyoto school of Namikawa, depicting a ho bird and dragon. The finely coiled wiring is gilded, as are the back panels of the screen. Each cloisonne panel is wood framed, joined with hinges of silver. Fully opened, the screen measures 8" high and 9" wide.

Condition: Quite fine, with only wear commensurate with age.

Purchased through Christie's a good number of years ago, this is a very rare Ko-Imari porcelain figure circa 1640. Decorated in iron-red, green, gold and black enamel, the seated official measures 7.5"x6"x2".
