During the Qing Dynasty, Chinese court gentlemen and ladies used elaborate hair styles. To assist in these construction of the "hairdo's", they used a wire form was covered with a mesh fabric. This particular "cap" was used to cover a bun of hair on the center of the head. The silver flat "hairpin" was used to hold the cap in place by pushing it through one side hole, between the hair bun and the scalp and through the other side hole. The inside of the cape clearly shows its age and use.

Unsigned, this 9.5" vase was attributed to Gonda Hirosuke by its previous owner. The ground is of differing shades of blue, the neck being darker than the body. Webb satin finish peachblow rose bowl, 3 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall. The bowl is cased in white with the exterior shaded from dark red at the top to a yellowish red at the bottom. The rim is crimped and edged in gold. The body of the rose bowl is decorated with gold prunus and a butterfly. There is a ground and polished pontil mark.

Head of an antique Lady carved in high relief. Given the thickness, it is likely to be a fragment of a sarcophagus. It is a Roman or a Greek.The quality is fine, the carving is precise, the finish is neat and the marble has a beautiful patina, but I think it is a 19th century creation in the style of the antique. The fragment is mounted on a green marble cube. Total height: 28cm, the fragment alone 20cm. Some chips on the base otherwise good condition.

A decorative fragment taken from the cuffs (horse-hoof shape) of a summer silk dragon robe with five clawed front facing dragons (couched pure silver wrapped threads) on a fish net like gauze weave.
